Medellín: Chiva Rumbera with tour guide, Las Palmas Viewpoint, Provenza, and Calle 33

Medellín: Chiva Rumbera with tour guide, Las Palmas Viewpoint, Provenza, and Calle 33

Looking to experience the local culture in a natural way? In 1920, the paisas began to adapt imported trucks to transport people and goods at the same time when Colombia had practically no roads. Along those impossible roads of Antioquia, the first chiva climbed. It carried farmers, chickens, sacks of coffee... even brides for their weddings! That's how our chiva was born. Not from an elegant factory, but from the paisa ingenuity that never gives up. This tour begins at the Éxito supermarket located in San Juan (Calle 44) with Carrera 70 (you won't find a place with better access by public or private transportation). A tour guide will provide a complete overview of the tour and the experience. The first destination on this tour is Parques del Río, an innovative urban project that has transformed the banks of the Medellín River into beautiful green spaces. Here, you will capture memorable photos with the backdrop of one of the city's most iconic urban renewal projects, which has received multiple international awards and symbolizes the remarkable transformation of Medellín. After soaking up the riverside atmosphere, the tour continues to Avenida 33, where you will have the opportunity to purchase refreshments and use private facilities before continuing the adventure. This brief stop allows you to recharge your batteries while experiencing an area of nightclubs and bars frequented by locals. The journey then ascends to the spectacular Mirador de Las Palmas, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Medellín nestled in the Aburrá Valley. (Bring a jacket for the cold.) This observation point not only provides perfect photo opportunities, but also a chance to experience the local cuisine. Try the richest hot chocolate prepared by traditional vendors while enjoying regional delicacies such as quesito, almojábana, pan de queso, and arepa de chócolo—all essential flavors of Antioquia. After descending back into the city, you will cross the Puente de La 4 Sur, connecting to the exclusive district of El Poblado. Here, the tour spends a full hour exploring this dynamic area where tradition blends harmoniously with international influences. Your tour guide will take you to the neighborhood's most significant sites, including Parque Lleras, the epicenter of Medellín's nightlife; Parque El Poblado, a historic landmark; and Provenza, a trendy area full of boutique shops, art galleries, and gourmet restaurants. Throughout this comprehensive city tour, you will witness the remarkable contrast between Medellín's traditional roots and its modern evolution, gaining insight into why this resilient city has become one of South America's most sought-after destinations. The experience concludes with a return to the original meeting point, with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of the paisa culture and spirit.

Pablo Escobar tour

Pablo Escobar tour

Our Pablo Escobar tour focuses on discussing different points of view around Pablo and the problems related to drug trafficking. Our purpose is to discuss about this scourge and its impact in our country and the process Medellín has gone through in order to become a more developed and safer city. For many years the city and its people have been stigmatized by the violence and drug trafficking, with this we intend to explain the why the country has had armed actors and people like Pablo Escobar, who are finally the reflection of our cultures, society and its dynamics. The goal is that tourists get to know the causes of this negative blip in the history of our country, the effect this has brought to our society and the process Medellin went through in order to become a city with better standards of living. Over 46 thousand deaths attributed to the war related to drug lords and cartels. We do not glorify him, we seek to understand the whole context of the time. What can I expect from the Pablo Escobar tour? In short, from the place where you are staying, we go to: The graveyard The house and rooftop where he died The memorial park (formerly the Mónaco building, his mansion) The neighborhood the built in the early 80’s, with insights of people who live there As optional, you can combine the tour with comuna 13 Apart from doing tours in Medellín, we strongly believe in education and change, and this is a space to go over many decades that left a bad legacy for Colombia, many people who somehow, were influenced by Pablo Escobar and of course, many victims. Fantastic experience, especially the guide, who made it a wild experience, told us everything and showed us more than that, so he can be recommended. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was that it said you could meet Pablo's brother, but that wasn't possible on the tour. I don't think it was the guide's fault. Value for money, experience of a lifetime.

Our guide Ronaldo was the best. You could tell that he was passionate about his job. He was humorous and very enthusiastic. We learned a lot about coffee and cocoa cultivation and processing. All in all, it was a wonderful day. I imagine that the tour would be best during harvest time. We were there in May.
