Excellent trip, well managed from booking in, dressing up, briefing to enquire guided whale watching experience! Saw the island with the puffins, thousands, some flying over, some in water near rib, and huge numbers quite far on cliffs. Then good close encounter with solitary Humpback , and wow later a grouping of at least 5 together, with exceptional photos! Guide said most she has ever seen here! Really an excellent value outing that is one of our trip highlights. Thank you to both the guide and the skipper, both ladies excelled!!!!

Full description

Get your warm clothes and get ready for a real adventure!

The tour begins with a sail to the beautiful Skjálfandi Bay. There are many whale species that are known to be accommodated in the area. For example, the Humpback whale, the Minke whale, White-beaked dolphins, porpoises… More than 10 different species visit Skjálfandi every year!

The speedy RIB boats make it more likely to have a close encounter with the giants, being able to drive huge amounts of miles in the trip. Also, with only 12 passengers or fewer on board, the competition for the best view on board is certainly eliminated.

Among the places, we will visit Lundey (Puffin Island)*, known for its great amount of the popular bird. Passengers will also see the Tjörnes peninsula, known for its fossil layers with the most ancient one being two million years old!

An expert whale-watching guide, a captain on board, a warm water-resistant overall suit, and a life vest are included in this trip. Bring your hat and gloves with you – the bay can be pretty cold!

Know before you go

  • Puffin season is from April 15 until August 20. Outside of that time of the year the tour is only big whale watching
  • The minimum age onboard is 8 years old, or 130 centimeters in height. If your child is slightly under 130cm, always contact the local activity provider beforehand for approval
  • If you have health issues such as a weak heart, bad back, epilepsy, or mobility issues, you can contact the local partner to arrange assistance
  • The local partner reserves the right to cancel departures due to bad weather, lack of passengers (min 4 per tour) or other reasons. If that happens, you will be notified in advance and offered an alternative departure or a full refund

We were very lucky as we saw whales quite close up, even our lovely young marine biologist was excited. All of the staff, from the girls in the office to the captain warned us of the conditions (very wet and cold) and looked after us as best as they could. I loved this trip.
