Upon arrival at the first wine estate, be treated to a selection of cheeses and snacks. Then embark on a tour of the cellar, followed by a wine-tasting session. From there head into Stellenbosch for a walk around the historic town before we head over the Helshoogte Mountain pass into the Franschhoek valley. Stop at the second winery of the day and enjoy a selection of wines with fantastic views of the village of Franschhoek. Enjoy a photo stop at the Drakenstein Prison, where Mandela was released from. This tour covers two of Cape Town's best wine making regions will start with a pickup from your accommodation in Cape town. From your accommodation, you will travel on the. Upon Arrival in Stellenbosch, you will have a chance to get off the vehicle and discover the town on foot. You may also want to take this opportunity to grab a coffee and absorb the town's vibrant energy before you move on to your first wine tasting experience of the day. After exploring Stellenbosch, the next stop will be at Lanzerac wine estate for your chocolate and wine tasting pairing experience of the day. Lanzerac is one of the oldest wine estates in Stellenbosch and here you will enjoy a unique tasting of 5 Premium wines paired perfectly with a selection of artisanal chocolates. From Lanzerac, you will drive up and down the Hell's heights pass to Tokara. The wine tasting here consist of 5 classic wines including a Rose and one of the best Carbert Sauvignon in the area. The deep rich soils consisting of decomposed granite, weathered sandstone affords Tokara the privilege to grow individual batches that are then blended to make top tier wines. After your second wine tasting experience, the journey will take us to Franschhoek town via the historic town of Pniel. Franschhoek, meaning the French's corner, is surrounded by mountains and manicured vineyards on all sides. You will have a lunch break here and you may also want to take this opportunity to explore the shops. Same as in Stellenbosch, here one may find art stores, jewelry stores, fine leather stores, clothing stores or even fine chocolate factories! Soon after the lunch break and the exploration of Franschhoek, the tour will make a headway for the Franschhoek terminals for your second leg of the wine tasting experience by tram. It usually takes about 8 minutes for the tram to travel between farms and you may hope off at a farm of your choice among the list of farms provided on your route. Two would be the maximum number of farms that you can visit by tram but you may also do a third one, time permitting. Your first possible stop by tram would be at the first female owned farm in Franschhoek, Rickety bridge. Here you will be more than welcome to choose any of the available wine tasting options. You may also opt out of the wine tasting and instead seat at Paulina's restaurant and enjoy the panoramic views of the mountains and the vineyards of the Franschhoek valley. On our way back to Cape town, you will have an opportunity to stop at a prison where Nelson Mandela spent the last 2 years of his 27 years in incarceration. With a history going back to 1797, the estate and its legacy have been passed on to its current owner Duncan Spence who has been ownership of the estate since 2000. Duration: 1 hour Stop At: Groot Drakenstein Prison. Drakenstein formely known as Victor Verster. This prison was home to our late Nelson Mandela for the last fourteen months of his long political imprisonment. He had a personal chef and a view of the Breathtaking Drakenstein Mountains. This charming town is sure to delight your senses and satisfy your shopping cravings! Following the lunch break and your adventure in Franschhoek, the tour will proceed to the Franschhoek terminals for the second part of the wine tasting journey by tram. Your tour guide will distribute your tram tickets and provide instructions on how to navigate the tram's timetable. Typically, the tram takes around 8 minutes to travel between farms, allowing you to disembark at any farm of your choice from the provided list along the route. While you can visit up to two farms as part of the tram experience, if time allows, you may also opt for a third tasting. On the way back from exploring the Franschhoek Wine Tram, we can make a quick stop at a significant landmark: a prison that once held Nelson Mandela.
