The best villages we visited, in my opinion were Fort Augustus, at Loch Ness, and Pitlochry. Both were very interesting and picturesque. The locks at Fort Augustus on the canal were great to watch boats pass through. The Faerie Pools and the Faerie Glen were both beautiful and fascinating locations. Portree was nice. It reminded me a lot of Bar Harbor, Maine maybe 30 years ago or so. The lodging was a lovely B & B with a nice view of the bay. Others on our tour were in a different location that was less inviting. However, our location had no hosts on site or nearby and offered only a continental breakfast that was not replenished for the second night. The other location was served a full, hot breakfast. That was a bit of a disappointment. Our guide was surprised by the accommodations and indicated he would be making his own comments to management. Access for the 16 person bus was extremely tight and required a lot of maneuvering by the driver. All in all, a very memorable excursion.

  • Timeline stop icon

Venture north and cross the mountain pass of Glencoe

Next, we venture north through the splendid scenery surrounding Loch Lubnaig and up to the wild desolation of Rannoch Moor. You continue through the spectacular mountain pass of Glencoe, scene of the great massacre of the Clan MacDonald in 1692. And after lunch we pass Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, and head into the Great Glen. Travelling west, you head past the Five Sisters of Kintail.

Stop at Eilean Donan Castle and cross over to Skye

You then stop at the famous Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles. Crossing over the bridge to Skye, you follow the dramatic coastline, towards the island’s capital, Portree. And after all this breath-taking beauty, you’re dropped off at your accommodation in the early evening with enough time to go out and explore the town.

It was amazing! We loved the whole trip and the beauty of the area. Guide was professional and informative. The accommodation was disappointing. We then moved to a second hotel at our own cost. They should not put up people in such basic accommodation that is meant for students. Give the customers options to choose from The rest of the trip was fantastic
