Gaetano is an amazing tour guide, and if you want to book a tour in Sassi di Matera to delve deep into its history and beauty, then I can highly recommend doing his! By the end of the tour we were in awe at everything we had learned. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions as they will all be answered with so much knowledge. Gaetano is a wealth of knowledge about the city of Matera and its grand history. Much of his information is oral history handed down from original residents of the Sassi. He sprinkled in a bit of humor here and there as well. Gaetano even helped us find our hotel at the end of the tour! We definitely recommend Gaetano - five stars and then some!

I highly recommend this tour! I took the English tour, and the guide provided an in-depth history of Matera, uncovering its secrets and explaining how people lived in the past with incredible detail. His English was perfect, making the experience even more enjoyable. A must-do for anyone visiting Matera!

Lots of information about life in the caves and the architecture. The tour was 2 hours, not 2.5 hours, which might have allowed us to see a bit of Matera Barioso.
