Hike the Picturesque Great Wall at Jinshanling The Jinshanling section of the Great Wall is half repaired. On this trip, you will see both a repaired section of wall and the original wall in ruins. There will be no crowds around you, so you can get the most out of China's legendary landmark as you tread the Wall's centuries-old stone steps or walk through a ruined ancient watchtower. The wild section gives you a sense of what it would have been like in its original glory. While the repaired section will transport you back in time to the heyday of imperial China. Your guide will meet you at 8am and then drive to Simatai West. You will start the hiking around 10:30am, and it will take about 3 hours to complete. A lunch at a local farmer’s restaurant will be organized after the hiking before returning to the city. This section offers arguably the finest hiking anywhere on the Great Wall. It is extremely photogenic, with over 15 watch-towers, and steep gradients that give constantly changing perspectives and wide, open views. There is fascinating variety in the watch-towers here. Some have two storeys, others three. Some have flat roofs, others rounded and others again are pitched with upturned eaves. This section of the wall is wild, ruined, preserved and original. On a clear day, it is difficult to fail to take good photographs here.

Viewed from a distance, the Jinshan ling Great Wall is like a giant dragon, curving its path over the mountain peaks whose line it follows. Afterwards, you will stop at a local restaurant for lunch. Please Note: Jinshanling's East Gate (Simatai West) will be closed from November 15th to March 15th. Tour only the western part of the Jinshanling Great Wall during this time. Beat the crowds during the early morning visit to the Jinshanling Great Wall. This early morning tour means leaving early and coming back early as well. Starting early time can avoid the morning rush hour. The traffic jam in Beijing is very horrible. Meet your guide and driver at your downtown hotel on time, then head up to Jinshanling Great Wall. We will spend about 3 hours hiking from Jinshanling Great Wall (Jinshanling West) to Simatai West( Jinshanling East); you will go up to the wall at Brick Crenel and walk to East Five-window Tower, a 6-kilometer trek with your guide who will accompany you throughout. The Jinshanling Great Wall has a long history and splendid culture, and is 120 kilometers away from downtown Beijing. The Jinshanling Great Wall starts from Wangjing Tower in the east and ends at Longyukou in the west, with a total length of about 15 kilometers. The wall is generally about 7 meters high, 7 meters wide at the bottom and 6 meters wide at the top, which can accommodate five horses. On this section of the Great Wall, enemy towers, battle platforms and bunk houses are densely packed, of which there are 155 enemy towers and battle platforms. Pick you up at your Beijing hotel at 7am and drive 2.5 hours to Jinshanling East. A 40-minute walking up will lead you to East-Five-Eye watchtower. You may take a few breaths before reaching the Wall, and will be rewarded by the breathtaking panoramic view of this amazing human constructions. Once standing on the top of the Wall, you could see Simatai, Jinshanling and Gubeikou in a clear day, what a spectacular view! You will walk mainly on brick steps at Jinshanling section and some of them are big. This section of the Wall is very popular among keen photographers for its intact watchtowers, beacon towers and other solid constructions. The steps rise up and down constantly and scenery is changing at every watchtower. Take a short break and some photos here, you will then walk westward to Jinshanling. You will get through Shalingkou and Zhuanduokou and then off the Wall at Taochunkou. Walking on the hilly trail for some 1 hour and taking a break at the cottage at Jinshanling West Gate. Continuing the walking through jungles for half an hour, you will come back to the Wall again at 24-Eye Watchtower at Gubeikou. You could see the panoramic view of the Tiger Hill in a distance if weather permits. The rest of 1.5 hours’ walking on the Dragon Hill is relatively flat and easier. Our driver is waiting for you at the end of Gubeikou. You will drive 2.5 hours back to Beijing.
