Naples: Certosa San Martino Tour with an Art Historian Guide

Naples: Certosa San Martino Tour with an Art Historian Guide

On the top of one of the Neapolitan hills, the Church of the Certosa di San Martino is a casket to one of the city's greatest treasures. Built in 1325 at the behest of the Duke Charles of Angiò, it was the mother church of the Order of the Certosini. After gathering with your guide outside the front of the church, enter the structure for a 2-hour guided tour. Around the cloister of the Monastery, the small cells demonstrate the need for peace and prayer sought by all monks. The great renovation of 1590 led the church of the Certosa to be one of the largest artistic construction sites in Southern Italy. Workers from Rome and from all parts of the Viceregno were charged with renewing the great church. These works lasted for about a century, with several interruptions and modifications in between. Today it is obvious that these works paid off. From the vault to the wonderful floor, each side chapel and every room is a priceless treasure. The beauty here is overwhelming from the inside out, with the city skyline looking crisp and wonderful on sunny days, and poetic and fascinating even in the rain.

The Spanish Quarter shows the authentic face of Naples, with its characteristic low buildings overlooked by many "pagan saints," Totò, Pino Daniele, Eduardo, and the holiest of all, "El Dios" Diego Armando Maradona, with a small square entirely dedicated to him. Corso Vittorio Emanuele offers another breathtaking view of the city and takes us to the top of the Vomero hill, where the imposing medieval structure of Castel Sant'Elmo and the famous Certosa di San Martino stand out, with its cloister, museum displaying works of great value, and terraced gardens from which to admire the view that spans and embraces the entire city of Naples. For me it's not worth it! I have 1 day to visit Naples and I am excited to visit the attractions I wanted. I don't have any difficulty using the subway. In case there are any Brazilians: For me it was worth it because I only had 1 day to visit Naples so 3 attractions were enough. In fact, due to my lack of time I was only able to visit 2 museums and I used the subway without any problems. I recommend it.

"Sharing is caring" 😊 We were able to try delicious cheese, vegetables, mozzarella, pizza and gelato and there was so much of it that we were more than full. Great tour off the beaten track! Thank you so much for the great tour!

It is worth buying, there was a small error when validating it but it was finally resolved, the only thing would be better if the pass was for 72 hours instead of 3 calendar days.
