Our day starts from your hotel or near your place around 7:00 in the morning! As we head towards the prefecture of Heraklion, we will make a 20 minutes stop for coffee. Around 10:00, you will arrive in Knossos, where you will enjoy a full guided tour , from our informative guide, of the palace of Knossos. You will have free time for photos! Then, we will visit the vibrant city of Heraklion. During our 3-hour stop there, you can enjoy a coffee or your lunch in the famous square " Lions" , visit the magnificent church of Agios Minas, shop for exquisite timepieces, or explore the Archaeological Museum of Crete! On our return, we will have a short break in Rethymno or a nearby village for less than an hour! You will be back to the pick up point around 18:00! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOSSOS PALACE Knossos, the most significant palace of the Minoan civilization, was traditionally the seat of King Minos and is tied to myths like the Labyrinth with the Minotaur and Daedalus and Icarus. Inhabited from the Neolithic period to Roman times, it thrived again during the Hellenistic period when taken by Roman Quintus Caecilius Metelus Creticus in 67 B.C. Discovered in 1878 by Minos Kalokairinos, and excavated by Arthur Evans from 1900 to 1931, the palace was restored to preserve its monuments. Today, visitors marvel at Knossos's ancient splendor, rich history, and unique window into Minoan ingenuity and artistry, imagining the vibrant life that once flourished here. HERAKLION CITY- ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM History thrives in Heraklion's old town, much like in many Greek cities. From the old Venetian Harbour, August 25th Street leads to the heart of the old town. The central square, surrounded by cafes, stores, and restaurants, is highlighted by the Lions Fountain, built by the Venetian governor Morozini in 1628. The Town Hall is now located in the Venetian Loggia, a building from the same era, adjacent to the plateau and the Byzantine-era Agios Titos cathedral. From the central square, the "Central Market" street ends at "Kornarou Square" with a coffee house situated at "Koubes," a Turkish fountain, and nearby is the "Bembo fountain" constructed by a Venetian nobleman. Morning Pick-up: We will start collecting participants from pick-up points in the morning. Depending on the place of your hotel/apartment the bus drive will differ. Bus Drive: 1 hour 1st stop: The Palace of Knossos Visit Knossos, the mythical labyrinth and ancient capital of Minoan Crete, 5000years ago. Our participants will enter the Archaeological Site with our Representative in order to attend a Guided Tour for about 1 hour & 20 minutes and then enjoy some free time to take photos and admire the historic Minoan place. People, have to wait in line, in order to receive their tickets and enter the Palace. The waiting time is different during high-season months and peak times within the day. 2nd stop: City Center of Heraklion Walking Tour & Free time Visit the capital of the Region and enjoy a guided tour in the center and the historical part of Heraklion, free time at the old market, the city center or visiting the archaeological museum. Participants will have plenty of time to walk, do some souvenir shopping or just take photos. Optional: Archaeological Museum of Heraklion For those who wish to visit the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, the choice is optional and will be without a guide as the Covid Regulation for visiting the museum as a group makes the procedure complicated and time consuming for the participants. End of the tour – Return to resorts: Embarkation in the buses and drive back to the hotels where we gathered participants in the morning. Depending on traffic and on the pick-up places of each one, the time of journey back to the hotel will differ.
