One of the best parts about visiting in spring is the quieter atmosphere. You’ll sidestep the peak season crowds and enjoy lower prices without missing key attractions. Discover what the Canary Islands are like in April with this guide.

Why go to the Canary Islands in April?

Enjoy fewer crowds and lower prices in the off-season

The Canary Islands are busiest during summer, when school is out, and in winter, when Europeans visit to escape the cold. This makes April one of the best times to visit the Canaries to avoid the usual crowds.

With fewer tourists, you can save on flights, hotels, and even discounted tour packages. While activities may be limited in April, you can still enjoy kitesurfing and other beach experiences at popular spots, such as Playa de Maspalomas in Gran Canaria.

The weather is perfect for hiking the famous trails

The Canaries offer a variety of hiking trails, ranging from easy walks to challenging treks through mountains, dunes, forests, and volcanic fields. But even the easiest trails can feel tough under the scorching summer sun, limiting how much you can explore during the hotter months.

Fortunately, the Canary Islands in April are mild and cool with little rainfall, making it one of the best times to hike in Spain. Set aside a few days to explore the islands’ diverse landscapes, including expansive sand dunes, volcanic valleys, rich forests, and, of course, Spain’s tallest peak, Mount Teide.

The Canary Islands in April are full of festivities

April brings some of the biggest events and celebrations to Spain’s best islands, from the lively music and religious Fiesta de Los Pastores to the Romería de San Marcos harvest processions at the end of the month. Stargazers will love the Starmus International Festival in La Palma, while music lovers won’t want to miss the Monopol Music Festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Events pop up throughout the month, but their dates can change from year to year. Be sure to check the schedule before visiting the Canary Islands to plan your trip around these exciting festivities.

Everything was very well organized. The trip was quite long, and we were able to observe dolphins for an extended period of time. However, the refreshment break was quite lengthy, and we did not receive our drinks until after two hours. An additional break halfway through the event would have been appreciated. Otherwise, the price-performance ratio was excellent.

We were a little apprehensive about going underwater but found the whole trip to be so interesting we didn’t even think about being underwater once we set off. Highly recommended. 👌
