Calton Hill and Arthur’s Seat are two iconic hills in the middle of Edinburgh that provide panoramic views across the entire city and surrounding countryside. We’ll start off visiting Calton Hill with its selection of historic landmarks. We will make sure to stop off at the unmissable photo spots on the hill. We’ll then make our way past a range of other sites before reaching the Scottish Parliament and Holyrood Palace. The climb will then begin to the summit of Arthur’s Seat (251m/823ft). A more locally known path will be used that is far more picturesque than the main tourist path. This means that our route will be more peaceful for nearly the entire ascent. A well-deserved rest will be provided at the summit. The descent route will take in some further sites and wildlife around other peaceful parts of Holyrood Park at Dunsapie Loch and St Margaret’s Loch. The total climb for the walk is 232m/761ft covering a distance of 5 miles, therefore a moderate level of fitness is required to complete this walk. The walk will be at a relaxed pace and include plenty of stops to admire the views, architecture, and historic sites.

The bus stop was easy to find and the guides were very friendly. The audio guide in German was great and the tour gave a good overview of the city and its sights. It would be nicer if it was clearer what time the buses were at each stop.
