Giulia kicked off our Bari tour by giving us a fascinating history lesson about the coolest spots in the old city. A deep dive into St. Nicolas, the churches and what influenced the evolution of this port city. The latter part of our tour was focused on some amazing food specialties. We had pasta a l’assassina at the restaurant Matiti that was so incredible we had to return for more, and the second time round we had it with stratiacella. Guilia made personal connections with each of us and her upbeat and enthusiastic personality made the rainy day seem pleasant. We met other travelers on our tour who had cashed it all in to travel the world. Oh to be so footloose in Bari. Guila, thanks for making our stay! Cindy

Excellent tour of Bari! I loved that we had a mix of food and history, which gave a really insightful view of the city. Giulia was incredibly knowledgeable, warm and welcoming. The food servings are full size so you won’t leave hungry. Highly recommend.

Full description

Your tour begins with visiting the main attractions of the old town. These include the Basilica of Saint Nicholas and its precious Crypt, the ancient Cathedral of Saint Sabinus, and the millenary Swabian Castle.


Stop several times for tastings. In a panificio (bakery) learn how focaccia barese is made and taste a slice of this delicious fresh Italian bread. Visit a salumeria (delicatessen) to find out about different kinds of cheeses and salami while drinking a glass of wine. In one particular traditional corner of the town, discover fried street food with the strong flavors of sgagliozze or panzerotti. In a gelateria, enjoy real home-made ice cream choosing your favorite one from a fantastic selection. 

The tour finishes by discovering the modern French part of the city. Here, by the famous sea-side, are beautiful opera theaters and luxury shopping streets to explore.

When we met Barbara, we suggested that we'd probably like more of an overview kind of tour instead of the deep details. She said, "don't worry, I'll keep it amusing." And boy did she. We had a great time walking around and learning a bit of Bari's history. We had a mixed language group so she had to bounce back and forth between English and Italian but that was not a problem. After our tour, we had added a foodie tour and Barbara introduced us to some wonderful items around town. Over all, we had a great day with her and fully enjoyed meeting her while touring the town. We fully recommend Barbara.
