Great experience and well organized, with a funny and lovely guide. The site itself is actually quite small—only the Temple of Poseidon remains—but in my opinion, watching the sunset from there makes it absolutely worth the price. An experience I would gladly repeat, Cape Sounio is a beautiful place!

Full description

Drive along the south coast to the Athenian Riviera on a trip from Athens to Cape Sounio and the Temple of Poseidon. Admire views of the temple and watch the sunset from Cape Sounion. Learn about the sights you see with an audio guide available in six languages.


Hop on board an air-conditioned bus and head to the Sounion. You’ll be dazzled by the famous landscape that surrounds the promontory of the Sounion. In the times of the ancient Greeks, this site was revered as sacred ground dedicated to the gods Poseidon and Athena.


Next, marvel at the Temple of Poseidon perched upon the cliff’s edge 70 meters above the sea (entry tickets not included). Walk the blessed earth of the Sounion, one of the places sung about it in Homer’s Odyssey, and stand on the same cliff where it is said King Aegeus threw himself off.

Jorge/ George (sp?) was funny and kind. Appreciated that he didn’t overwhelm us with a lot of talking on the long coastal drive. This was worth the trek despite the long drive (in traffic). How many opportunities do you have to watch sunsets next to ruins like Poseidon?! Sunset was at 8:43pm. I took sunset + temple photos an hour before and it was perfect. The crowd started appearing 15 mins before sunset and the area became overwhelming crowded. So as they came up, I walked back down to the restaurant. But I was very happy with my photos and the time I got to spend up there without so many people around.
