From Athens: Private tour to Delphi, the navel of the Earth

From Athens: Private tour to Delphi, the navel of the Earth

On this day trip you will travel through mainland of Greece, and you will see the agricultural crops and cities such as Thiva and Livadia. You will ascend to Parnassos where you will pass by the picturesque and cosmopolitan Arachova village, before reaching the most important destination of this trip - the center of the world for the ancient Greeks - Delphi. Delphi was the most important religious center in the ancient years and since 1987 it has been an Unesco monument. In the archaeological site of Delphi, you will see the stoa of the Athenians, the ancient theater, the oracle of Delphi, the stadium of Delphi and of course the temple of Apollo. After an incomparably beautiful route, you will head to the Archaeological Museum. The archaeological museum of Delphi is the second most visited museum after the one of the Acropolis of Athens. Every year it receives visits from 700,000 people and is considered one of the most beautiful museums in Greece. Here, the history of the famous Delphic sanctuary and the famous oracle is presented in the best way, through a rich collection of sculptures, statues, the statue of the Charioteer, the Sphinx of the Naxians, the parts of the frieze of the Sifnian treasure, the fragments of metopes with depictions of the labours of Hercules from the treasure of the Athenians, the Navel, the statues of the mythical brothers Kleovis and Viton etc. Our next visit will be to Castalia Pigi. Castalia Pigi is a spring where water flows since the ancient times and was the source in which the purification of both the visitors of the temple and the High Priestess of the Sanctuary of Delphi took place. After visiting Pigi, our next stop will be at the sanctuary of Athena of Atreus, perhaps the most photographed ancient sanctuary. After your visit to the archaeological site of Delphi, a short tour to the cosmopolitan but at the same time traditional city of Arachova will take place. As we descend from Parnassos Mountain, we will make a detour to visit the medieval monastery of Osios Loukas, a traditional stone-built Byzantine monastery that has been in continuous operation since then. After the visit to the monastery, we will start our way back through the same route. The whole route along with the visits will last about 10 hours.

Delphi & Meteora 2-Day Private tour with great Lunch&Drinks

Delphi & Meteora 2-Day Private tour with great Lunch&Drinks

Why this tour? It is a private & personalized experience just for you! We try to be attentive to our guests’ reactions, emotions & preferences to make the experience unforgettable for all of us!!! You will visit two legendary UNESCO locations from Ancient Greece during this 2-day tour. Delphi & Meteora. The way we operate this tour, you will probably visit Meteora twice. Both in the late afternoon of Day 1 and the next morning (Day 2) with different lighting conditions for the best possible experience of this amazing location. But you will need to follow your tour leader's plan to succeed in this complimentary treat. Food and drinks are a big part of our tours and the places we choose are very unique and authentic and are also where the locals eat! Your driver is also your tour leader. Expect full communication from him at all times with information about your destinations and also information about Greece! Day 1: You will begin the drive towards the northwest area of Athens, where you will arrive at the archaeological site of Delphi in 2+ hours without any unnecessary touristy stops (we highly discourage this!). A quick stop at the scenic Arachova village which is the dominant location at the top of Mt Parnassus (a ski center location) just before Delphi. At Delphi, you will explore the classical treasures, theater, museum, and ancient ruins. Next, head towards the scenic Amphissa mountain town. After an “important” lunch stop halfway -treat of your tour leader- arrive at your hotel. Should we arrive at Meteora in good time (our aim and plan), and before checking in to your hotel, we can visit the famous Meteora Rocks for a complimentary evening photo shoot with the late afternoon light. Day 2: Enjoy breakfast in your hotel, and then a swift drive to Meteora, your main destination of the day! This UNESCO World Heritage site was home to more than 20 rock monasteries. Visit two (maybe 3) of the incredible monasteries depending on your energy and available time. Originally occupied by 11th-century hermits, the monasteries became hiding places for monks when the Roman Empire started falling. The two monasteries you may visit are subject to change depending on the day of the visit since most monasteries have different opening days and times. Typically, the monasteries to be visited include the Grand Meteora Monastery and Moni Agiou Stefanou or Moni Varlaam or Holy Trinity. After exploring Meteora, return to your private vehicle for your trip back to Athens which takes around 3.5 hours with the necessary stops to stretch your legs. Halfway, a stop to see Thermopylae; the historical battlefield between the Spartans (300) & the Persians. Soon after, a more relaxed stop to enjoy a great lunch & drinks by the water before continuing the journey south to be dropped off directly at your Athens hotel. What makes this tour different than other similar ones? - We start early (not very early!) to avoid the crowds and possibly the heat. - We visit the important Athena Pronaia site that most people miss out on and is part of Delphi. - We don’t have lunch in touristy locations like Delphi & Arachova. - We include lunch and drinks because they are part of the experience! - We include Hosios Loukas Monastery! It’s a miss if you have made the trip to Delphi and skipped this beautiful UNESCO monastery! Meet your private driver/guide in the lobby or entrance of your hotel for your departure. Begin the drive towards the northwest area of Athens, where you will arrive at the archaeological site of Delphi in just 2 hours without any unnecessary stops that many scheduled tours make. Explore the classic treasures, theater, and ancient ruins taking photos along the way. Take a moment to appreciate the Temple of Apollo, originally built in the 7th century B.C. and reconstructed on two additional occasions. After observing this very historic archaeological site, the Museum of Delphi, and the Temple of Athina Pronaia, head to the scenic stone-built Arachova village, a small mountain village rich in culture for a short walk! Then you visit a non-touristy village for a great lunch & drinks for an authentic Greek lunch experience with homemade dessert(s). This includes mixing with the locals so that you get a real feeling of the country. After lunch, you head to the nearby Hosios Loukas monastery, with your driver arranging for coffee/tea/chocolate and homemade dessert to be ready for you after exploring the site. This beautiful location offers excellent views and peaceful surroundings. We’re not ones for group tours but given we were staying in Athens we decided to go and see Delphi again (after 30 years) along with our daughter who had never been. Aside from waiting for late guests in the morning the whole experience was great. Breaks with enough time to get smacks and go to the bathroom. The Restaurant in Arachova was great as well. Nikos was a great tour guide providing background on Athens history and the surrounding region during our trip to Delphi and then proving a lot of insight at both the site and then the museum. Some felt the museum would have been better to visit first but I don’t agree. We had a great time although it was a long day. Well worth it.

The trip was very well planned! The bus was modern and had strong air conditioning. Our guide was very well informed and shared lots of interesting information. Delphi is magical and should not be missed. We had a small tour and time to explore. Then we went to the museum. We headed to Arachova and had some free time to explore or eat at our leisure, We then drove back to Athens with another quick stop on the way. It was very well planned and organized!

This was a great trip. Theodore was an excellent guide - personable, knowledgeable, helpful, accommodating - all the things you want in a guide. The van was extremely comfortable for the group of 13. And Delphi is a beautiful, fascinating place to visit, full of history and mythology.

It was very nice. Caterina was extremely nice and our Delphi tour guide Helen was incredible. Apolo's temple and the Ancient Stadium of Delhi, 15mns up the hill from it were amazing. Lunch was good and Arachova was also quite nice. Reccomend.
