Arad - The Classic Walking Tour
Discover the history and architecture of Arad, a city in the middle of the Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy. Learn about the golden age of the city and the multiculturality of the city through the stories of those who inhabited it. Begin your tour in front of the current city hall. Hear about the golden age of the city dating back to the beginning of the 20th century when most of the buildings you see today were built. Pass by the Cultural Palace, an impressive building made right before World War I that harmonically binds several architectural styles. The place sits right on the riverbank of the Mureș, the mighty river of Transilvania that crosses Arad as well. On the way, explore the multiculturality of the city through the stories of those who inhabited it. Enter the biggest Catholic church in the city, a miniature of Saint Peter's Basilica from the Vatican, and learn about heroes undressed by their uniforms in the Romanian-Hungarian Reconciliation Park. Finish the tour in the former main square of Arad, the current Avram Iancu Square, which has been the heart of the city for almost two centuries.
