Hua Hin: Maeklong Railway & Amphawa Floating Markets Tour

Hua Hin: Maeklong Railway & Amphawa Floating Markets Tour

Explore Thailand's renowned markets on this afternoon tour from Hua Hin. Witness the astonishing sight of a train making its way through the busy Maeklong Railway Market, and glide through the authentic Floating Market Amphawa by boat. Seize the opportunity to purchase a variety of unique and affordable traditional Thai snacks, the perfect souvenirs. Be picked up from your hotel in Hua Hin and head to the Maeklong Railway Market, established in 1905 and located in the province of Samut Songkhram on the Gulf of Thailand. Fishing has been, and remains, a primary source of livelihood for the locals, with the market serving as an additional venue to sell their catch. To facilitate the distribution of these goods throughout Thailand, including to the capital, officials constructed a railway. Despite this, the market persists, even with the tracks slicing through it. The approach of the train is audible well before it comes into view. Vendors and merchants calmly begin to retract their goods and umbrellas from the tracks as the train advances, sounding its horn intermittently as a warning of its impending passage. Goods are pulled back, canopies are retracted, and the tracks are swiftly cleared to make way for the train. Next, head to the Amphawa Floating Market. Although it may not be as historically accurate visually, the transformation of a centuries-old trading tradition into the modern era is a unique phenomenon. Along the 50-kilometer stretch of Amphawa Canal, Buddhist monks still paddle in the mornings to receive alms from villagers, locals frequent the floating markets for their produce and groceries, and waterfront residents depend on the canal for daily activities such as cleaning and bathing. Enjoy a boat ride through the authentic Floating Market of Amphawa. Purchase a variety of unique and affordable traditional Thai snacks, perfect as souvenirs. Discover the history and culture of these emblematic markets with the help of your knowledgeable guide. Finally, enjoy a delicious Thai dinner at a local restaurant before returning to Hua Hin.

Pick up was on time. The bus could have been a little cooler it was a hot day. Water the guide gave us could have been chilled as well. The guide Pom explained the afternoon to us and said if we needed restroom stops just ask. The railway was great fun, very busy so stay close to your guide. The floating market is an experience and a fun afternoon. Food was tasty. Pom could have explained a little more about the places we passed while on the floating market. A great trip.

The individual stops were very attractive and really worth the visit. The local lunch was tasty and plentiful. Some changes to the itinerary due to health restrictions on our part were well incorporated. Clearly recommend the tour and guide Nam!
