Explore the rich biodiversity of the Alps at the Alpine Zoo in Innsbruck. See animals from around 150 species, all residing in naturalistic enclosures, terrariums, and aquariums. Begin your visit by traversing the zoo's sloped terrain, where you'll encounter a wide variety of alpine habitats, from lush valleys and serene lakes to rugged mountain slopes and icy regions. The zoo showcases around 20 of the 80 alpine mammal species, 60 of the 200 bird species, and nearly all fish species found in the Alps. Notable residents include brown bears, lynx, wolves, elk, otters, and various birds of prey. The zoo is committed to accessibility, featuring wide paths, walk-in enclosures, and aviaries. Special tours are available for visitors with disabilities, utilizing the zoo's bear mobile for a comfortable experience. The Alpine Zoo plays a crucial role in nature and species conservation, participating in several European Endangered Species Breeding Programs (EEP) and European Studbooks (ESB). The zoo also acts as a reception center for injured wildlife, contributing to the preservation of alpine fauna. Plan your visit to coincide with the seasonal highlights. From March, witness birds courting and nest-building, and from April to June, see young ibex, chamois, and deer. Even in winter, most animals remain active, offering a year-round adventure. After exploring, relax at the zoo's bistro, Animal Meal, which offers small meals and drinks with seating for around 150 guests, both indoors and outdoors.

Our meeting point, between the Congress and Hofgarten, is right in the historic heart of Innsbruck. We start our hike at 10:00 a.m. and quickly leave the bustling city center behind us. We walk along the Inn to the Hans-Psenner-Steg. We cross the Inn over this bridge and ascend towards the Alpenzoo. Above Innsbruck, our path leads us to the district of Mühlau, from where we enter the gorge. We climb higher and higher along the roaring mountain stream, past countless small waterfalls and unusual rock structures. After leaving the gorge, the paths become wider again and we continue on our way to the idyllically situated Arzler Alm. Here we have reached our "high point" and after a break we return to civilization. Slightly descending, we roam the forests above the Hungerburg until we reach our drop-off location at the Hungerburg. From there, the city center is easy to reach by train or bus.

Innsbruck was amazing. This was my 2nd time but 1st using the Innsbruck card. Great value for money. Costs the same as the top of Innsbruck with alpine zoo but you get so much more. I didn’t have enough time there to do everything so will visit again for sure. Highly recommend

Super easy ticket collection at the Innsbruck Tourism Office, very warm welcome by the staff. Went for Top of Innsbruck Nordkette Cable Car and later took bus to the Swarovski Crystal Worlds Wetten. Really easy to use the city card if you are using public transport!

The top of Innsbruck was spectacular. The ticket from GYG made it easy to use the different trams and gondolas to get to the top. The zoo was also very nice, but many of the animals were not visible, perhaps because of the winter season? Overall a great day.
