Start with pickup from your accommodation in Abu Dhabi and relax on the transfer in a comfortable car. Take in the scenic desert on the way to the Al Wathba Fossil Dunes. See incredible rock formations that have taken over 4-million years to develop.

Explore and area that has 1,700 fossil dunes, spread over 7 square kilometers, making it one of the largest numbers of fossil dunes concentrated in one location in the Emirates. Walk a 2-kilometer train that has shaded areas and benches for resting.

Continue to the Al Wathba salt lake where you can take photos white salt deposits that contrast with the mesmerizing green water. Head to the Al Wathba Camel Race Track to see this spectacular sport (race do not take place every day).

Watch as these ungainly creatures reach impressive speeds by galloping around a specially made track. Get to the racetracks as early as possible to soak up the cheerful atmosphere in full.

  • During the holy month of Ramazan (March to April) the Al Wathba Fossil Dunes visiting hours are restricted, if fossil dunes are closed people can spend more time in salt lake.
  • The camel track is free to enter
  • Camel races normally take place on weekend mornings, with additional races on public holidays, but every day there will be camel race training except Fridays.
  • Guests can enjoy watching the training of camels ,if there is no races present at that time.

The dunes were unfortunately closed, the salt lake under construction, but the guide did his best to help us discover the different areas. The camel race was great, an activity that brings us closer to local traditions. I wanted to maintain my activity even though the dunes were under construction but I had been warned in advance. They should reopen soon and the work on the lake should also end, I recommend this activity which is off the beaten track.
