Cotswolds: Bath, Tetbury & Castle Combe - Southern Cotswolds

Cotswolds: Bath, Tetbury & Castle Combe - Southern Cotswolds

Embark on a journey through the wilder, sparser southern Cotswolds. Admire countryside views, discover ‘royal’ Tetbury, and step back in time in tiny Castle Combe. Explore the amazing World Heritage City of Bath, too! After being picked up from either central Stratford-upon-Avon (8.50AM) or Moreton-in-Marsh rail station (9.30AM), visit the following locations: Tetbury (45 minutes). Arrive in Tetbury, a small, pretty and typically Cotswold market town. Known for its quaint streets, including the picturesque ‘Chipping Steps’, historic market hall and lovely independent shops, Tetbury is also known for its most famous residents – none other than King Charles and Queen Camilla! There’s a Highgrove Estate shop here for all your royal souvenirs. Bath (3 hours). Departing Tetbury, enjoy the ride to Bath. En route, your guide will tell you about the fascinating history of this UNESCO World Heritage City, which dates back to Roman times and enjoyed a revival in the Georgian era. First, make a quick photo stop at the iconic Royal Crescent, considered to be the finest example of Georgian architecture in the country. Then, drop off in the centre of Bath, where you’ll have free time to explore with maps provided. Grab lunch on the go so you can see as much as possible. You may not have time to do everything Bath has to offer, but the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, The Circus, and the Jane Austen Centre are all highlights here. Castle Combe (30 minutes). A shorter drive of around 35 minutes brings you to Castle Combe. It may look very familiar – it’s one of the most famous and photographed villages in the Cotswolds, consistently ranked as the “prettiest village in England”. A conservation order on the buildings here means there are no ugly telegraph wires, satellite dishes, solar panels or other modern paraphernalia to be seen, giving the impression that you have truly stepped back in time. Get your Instagram snaps here, but don’t forget to see it with your own eyes too! At the end of the day, you'll be dropped off back where you started: at Moreton-in-Marsh station by 6.00PM, or in Stratford-upon-Avon by 6.30PM. In Winter, to make the most of shorter daylight hours, we visit Tetbury and Castle Combe first, then Bath. On dates between 27th November and 14th December 2025, join this tour to experience Bath's wonderful Christmas Market!

From Bath: Cotswolds Private Day Tour with Pickup

The day begins in Castle Combe, which is surely one of the most photographed villages in all of England. Little has changed here since the 15th century - no street lights or TV aerials. This mediaeval gem is famous for its picturesque cottages and babbling brook. Tetbury is the home town of The King and Queen Camilla and neighbours their Highgrove Estate. Photograph the famous Chipping Steps, lined with ancient weaver’s cottages and buy a souvenir from His Majesty's Highgrove Shop. Enjoy an atmospheric pub lunch at an historic inn. Your journey continues towards the ancient market town of Stow-on-the-Wold. This delightful town is famous for its picturesque and thriving centre with several independent shops. The tour continues through the heart of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty towards the idyllic twin villages of Upper & Lower Slaughter. Lower Slaughter was named the prettiest village in England in 2021 and it’s easy to see why. A location trapped in time, where wonderful photo opportunities await you amongst flower-draped cottages and romantic footbridges. Enjoy a short stroll through the countryside to the neighbouring village of Upper Slaughter (weather dependent). Please note that children aged 12 years or under are not permitted on this tour due to UK child seat law restrictions. Your driver-guide is neither insured nor licensed below this threshold.

Absolutely loved spending the day with Matt of Galahad Tours! He is extremely knowledgeable about all the history within the area and beyond. Matt avoided the villages that are now completely overrun by tourists and took us to several equally beautiful and significant villages. Matt was absolutely a delightful person to spend the day with and the tour with him was worth every penny. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Matt was fantastic, and a wealth of knowledge well beyond our Cotswolds tour. Our day in the Cotswolds was amazing, informative and beautiful. Our party ranged from 15 to 87, and Matt was engaging and fascinating to all. His Mercedes Benz minivan was roomy, comfortable and immaculate. My family is looking forward to future trips to the UK, and everyone wants more tours from Matt.

Matt was an excellent guide for our day in the Cotswolds! A most personable young man with a great knowledge of the history of this charming countryside. He is very attentive to the needs of his guests and works to ensure their experience is great. Our day with Matt was truly delightful and I am sure he brings the same level of expertise to all his tours.

Matt was Awesome! His choice of towns to visit in the Cotswold was excellent, and his knowledge of the region and its history is extensive. We thoroughly enjoyed our private tour with Matt. We are already planning our return to England, and we will be sure to see Matt for a Winery and Vineyard tour of the region.
