The rich paintings, reliefs, sculptures, jewels, and extraordinary monuments all tell the incredible story of ancient Egypt. - ''French Orientalist Painters, Ingres, Delacroix, Gérôme'' In the 19th century, a new world opened up to Western artists: 'the Orient'. French painters became fascinated by these regions previously unknown to them. The differences of these new and far-off places stimulated their imaginations, with Orientalism being the result: an art movement wherein Western artists depict Eastern countries in beautiful, but romanticized, simplistic, and ultimately stereotypical ways. - ''Foreign Nature'' Also discover Foreign Nature. The new immersive special exhibition The Sea, Dive into the magical deep invites explorers of all ages to take a unique look beneath the surface of the oceans and their many inhabitants.
