Day 1: Madrid in One Day - El Escorial
Today you will experience Madrid in a day, seeing some of its landmark monuments and museums. Go to the Palacio Real (Royal Palace) to see the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family, and then visit one of Madrid’s oldest squares at Plaza Mayor. Discover where Madrid celebrates New Year’s Eve at Puerta del Sol, and admire the imposing architecture of the Gran Via.

Continue to El Escorial, approximately 45 kilometers from the capital, and discover the beauty of one of the most unique Renaissance buildings in Europe. Enjoy access to the royal palace and former residence of the Spanish Royal Family.

Day 2: Avila and Salamanca
Today you will take a tour of the walled city of Avila and admire its ramparts, watchtowers, and many turrets. One of the best-preserved bastions in Spain, the city boasts 8 monumental gates and has drawn pilgrims to the cult of Santa Teresa de Ávila for centuries. Go to the San Vicente Shrine within the Romanesque Basílica de San Vicente, and admire the somber Gothic façade of the 12th-century Catedral del Salvador (Avila Cathedral).

Continue to the university city of Salamanca and wander among sandstone buildings of rare beauty. Discover the picturesque squares of one of Castilla’s liveliest towns (thanks to its massive student population), and learn more about life in the city today. See the grand square of Plaza Mayor and the sandstone walls of the Universidad Civil. Admire the dome of the Catedral Nueva, which can be seen from almost every point in the city!
