Sail among the icebergs of Lago Argentino under the immense Upsala Glacier. Then, visit the remote Estancia Cristina to explore the culture and lifestyle of the Argentine gauchos. Experience a unique combination of nature, adventure, and history.
What to Expect
This full-day adventure begins with an early morning hotel pick-up from El Calafate for the 31-mile drive across a Patagonian wilderness to Punta Bandera, the port of El Calafate, located on Lago Argentino.
Board a modern and comfortable boat and sail out onto the ice-blue lake, drifting among icebergs and taking in the stunning Patagonian scenery. Glide past the western front of the mighty Upsala Glacier, the second longest glacier in South America. Continue through the Cristina Canal to your disembarkation point at the historic ranch of Estancia Cristina.
Here, you will visit the Gaucho Museum to explore the historical culture of Argentina’s cowboys. Visit the charming chapel, and enjoy a guided walk up to the Caterina River, a popular fishing spot for catching Patagonia’s world-famous Patagonian Trout.
Time is allotted for an un-hosted lunch where you can taste unique Patagonian cuisine at the Estancia, such as traditional Patagonian lamb. Then, relax and enjoy the return trip by boat to Punta Bandera, drifting back through the chilly landscape of drifting icebergs and snow-capped mountains.
