Perito Moreno glacier is an absolute must if traveling to Calafate. First, we had tons of photo opportunities on a boat en route to the mini-trekking area. Once we arrived to the foot of the glacier, it was time for lunch which was BYO (we missed the fine print and forgot to bring our own, but had packed snacks in our backpack). Then we had a nice walk to the glacier, stopping on the way for pictures and to get outfitted with crampons and a helmet. The actual trekking on the glacier was awesome — helpful guides explaining how to best/safely traverse. There was even a surprise snack/beverage at the end before getting off of the glacier! Note: most of the guides didn’t speak English, but we were still able to understand most of it. One important learning — we could have saved a ton had we booked with the tour company directly instead of GYG. As a general rule of thumb, it’s better to pay for everything (excursions, food, hotel) with pesos if you are able to exchange USD for it.

Perito Moreno is simply SPECTACULAR and walking on it is so much more special!! BUT, do not expect anything else other than the professionalism of the leaders of the trek. Make sure you bring everything yourself if you need to drink something. The hike is spectacular and what you see is simply breathtaking. However the service is mass tourism and nothing special. Yet professional and by the book. The leaders of the trek on ice are great. Great sense of humor and made sure we were all safe. The kept safe distances and had an eye on us constantly.

this was such an amazing experience! we were grinning from ear to ear! loved getting up close to the glacier on the boat and then getting to actually walk on it was simply wonderful. the whole trip was very well organized from the pick up at the hotel to the various components. I highly recommend this to just about everyone. They made it very easy for people to manage the ice walk - just be sure to wear decent shoes/hiking boots.
