Naxos: Aegean Sea & Lush Lowlands Private Guided E-Bike Tour

2. Naxos: Aegean Sea & Lush Lowlands Private Guided E-Bike Tour

What has the Aegean sea got to do with lush lowlands? They blend perfectly in this tour. Plains of olive tress, canes and citrus fruits next to the Aegean sea constitute the natural scenery of this tour. Several stops, information flood of archaeological and agricultural interest and then.. the infinite blue! The beauty of Melanes valley will get you in the right mood before getting to know the two wonders of ancient sculpture lying imposingly – the famous Kouros statues. Eggares citrus valley is next, about which the nine times for Nobel prize nominated, great Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis, wrote : “If paradise was on earth, it would be here”. The hospitality of Eggares Olive Press museum was more likely the kind of hospitality that hugged him, to speak these words. Let the curators of the museum treat you the same way, in a full tour. Our friend Giannis will accommodate you next, in his farm with his own produced cheese, vegies, wine and/or raki. His eyes and smile speak English, although his mouth doesn’t. A relaxing ride throughout the citrus plain of Eggares and Galini villages and right next to the ocean later, will be your last taste of the tour.

This is an excellent way to get a sense for the island. You visit a couple of villages, a beach, and a pair of archaeological sites. You also get a pottery making demonstration and a lesson on olive pressing. In season, the tour includes a stop at an olive museum and store. The natural beauty of the Naxos is apparent as you drive up into the mountains, stop in the quaint towns, and descend toward the sea. Demetris provides a friendly and accessible narration, and Vasilis drives the bus with consumate skill. We met fellow travelers from all over, and enjoyed the entire experience.

The tour was excellent and a great way to see the island. I can remember the exact names of our guide and driver (I think our guide was Dimitri?) but they were both very nice and our guide had lots of interesting facts to tell us. It was beautiful getting to see some of the villages and the mountains of the island. The swim stop was also beautiful. I will say that it’s a pretty packed day so keep that in mind if you want more time in each stop. “It takes a lifetime to discover Greece but only a second to fall in love with her” - and I couldn’t agree more.

The tour was excellent! Our driver and guide were both fantastic - very knowledgeable and funny. We really enjoyed all the stops on the tour, and although it would've been nice to have some more time at some, we understand why it wasn't possible. Very enjoyable - thank you so much! (-:

I could not have easily accessed all these attractions across remote mountain roads on my own. This was just right for a low energy outing on day 37 of my current sojourn.

Nice day tour in Naxos, the guide knew his stuff for sure !
