The site is well worth visiting if you are interested in Edinburgh history. It is a fascinating look into a unique urban environment dating from the 1500s to the 1700s. The tour included displays and videos. Our guide, Rachel, was informative and engaged the child on the tour well. We were disappointed that our guide, while announcing herself as a character from the time period, was not appropriately dressed for the time. We find it distracting to see someone wearing modern glasses, jewelry and clothing asserting they are a 16th century person, especially since all the advertising emphasized period guides.

The tour was soo interesting and the guide was wonderful! She stayed in character and was extremely flexible, even when a French tour group joined us and a person interpreted everything she was saying. Even so, she didn’t let that trip her up and continued to fully engage us during the entire tour. We told her of our limitations due to knee surgery and she was sure to point out where we could sit whenever we enter a room. We would definitely take our friends and family on this tour if we had the chance!

Enjoyable and really interesting experience. Craig did a very good job in presenting the social history of the time. I particularly enjoyed the way Craig spoke at a good, measured pace and diction/ clarity was excellent. Staff in tea room very welcoming.
