Covid-19 Update

Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

This vaults tour takes you beneath the streets of Edinburgh's Old Town into a dimly lit space that many considered to be haunted. Your tour visits the vaults of the South Bridge that date back to the 1700s.

These are the same vaults mentioned on Most Haunted Live as one of the scariest places on earth. Learn how the vaults have been used over the years, and the living conditions endured by the poor and homeless residents who frequented them.

The darker side of Edinburgh's history will unfold as you wander through the candle-lit underground area. From your guide, you'll hear about the Burke and Hare murders and the persecution of witches.

Discover the characters who stalked the streets of Edinburgh, and the paranormal stories associated with the vaults. The Haunted Vaults tour option will cover more paranormal and ghost stories. Step into the torture exhibition and explore how and why these items were used.

Great experience, highly recommend. Our guide Andrew was brilliant and he really made the tour with his enthusiasm and great story telling. My only advice would be maybe don't attempt this after a few drinks the night before. I had a funny turn once we were down in the vaults as not a lot of fresh air down there, was very nearly sick but managed to hold it together. Thoroughly recommend this tour though, was very interesting and great to find out the history of what went on in days gone by.

Fantastic tour! There are a lot of them to choose from but this one you can feel confident that it will be great. Well, at least if you have Fraser as your guide. He did a great job story-telling, mixing in ghoulish folklore and legends with somber and empathetic telling of history and a good dash of humor. I felt like we learned a lot, felt a lot, and had fun. The vaults are interesting as well as disconcerting, and you may actually be tempted to do more than one tour just to spend more time down there.

Josh was an excellent guide, so friendly! Really informative whilst keeping up a good sense of humour. Remember to bring cash if you wish to tip as I only had card so was unable to (Sorry Josh). I missed my slot due to traffic but was able to wait and join the next group rather than having to buy another ticket! Learnt a lot, good value for money. I would recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh, finished off my last day nicely :) Thanks again Josh!
