Full description
Visit intriguing Rosslyn Chapel, explore the town of Melrose, journey to the Scottish Borders, and see Hadrian’s Wall on this full-day tour from Edinburgh. Rosslyn Chapel has always been mysterious, and has achieved worldwide fame since the publication of The Da Vinci Code. This beautiful and highly ornate 15th-century chapel has long been the subject of speculation about its origins and the meanings of its famous stone carvings. Visit the charming town of Melrose for lunch, then cross the ancient Scotland/England border at Carter Bar. Follow in the footsteps of feuding clans and families, known as Border Reivers, who fought a series of violent raids here until the end of the 16th century. Then visit one of the world's most important Roman monuments: Hadrian’s Wall. Travel to Housesteads Fort (National Trust) in Northumberland National Park, the best preserved Roman fort along Hadrian’s Wall. Enjoy a free nature walk along one of the most dramatic and photographed stretches of the wall. Upon returning to Edinburgh, stop in the Border market town of Jedburgh to stretch your legs and take photos of the famous abbey.

Keith was a wonderful guide who went above and beyond for our group. He was very knowledgeable of the history of the area and kept us entertained for the majority of the day. This was a long drive and day, almost 12 hours. Our first stop was Rosslyn chapel and then we went out into the country to Hadrian’s wall. It’s truly a worthwhile drive if you’re interested in history and enjoy the outdoors. Beautiful scenery and definitely an experience standing over historic land. Our tour started right on time and we were a punctual group so we had time to stop for pictures along the way. Keith was very good about stopping at rest stops that were clean. He had a great sense of humor and kept us entertained throughout the trip…even has a good singing voice!

Well organised knowledgeable guide. Ready and waiting on time. Comfortable coach with air conditioning. Folk music was played partly on route. Our guide Keith gave excellent information as we travelled, about the history and battles of the area we passed. Stops were made on route to view and for refreshments. We had good time to visit all the important points and more of the major stops of this tour

This was such an amazing tour. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about Scotland's monuments and history. Even though the journey between stops was lengthy in parts, he had a lot of interesting tidbits about the surrounding landscape and towns and entertained us with lots of Scottish music. Rosslyn Chapel is a must to see, with its fascinating carvings and rich history, and its use in the Da Vinci Code (though they don't focus much on this). Hadrian's wall was also fantastic piece of history and there is plenty of time to explore. You stop in a couple of quaint towns as well, and if time, at couple of extra interesting viewpoints like the Scottish/English border. For those concerned about taking this tour while COVID is a risk, it felt very safe to us; the tour guide sanitised the bus regularly and we were well spread out from other guests. Rosslyn Chapel was actually less crowded due to restrictions as well which was great.
