Full description
Wander the opulent state rooms and lavish gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Her Majesty The Queen’s official Scottish residence, located at the end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Once inside the baroque palace, learn about its close associations with Scotland's history via a complimentary multimedia guide (available in 9 languages). Visit the State Apartments to see the changing tastes of successive monarchs. Marvel at fine plasterwork ceilings and Brussels tapestries, along with paintings and other artworks in rooms still used by the Queen and Royal Family for official ceremonies. Go to the Throne Room to see where lunch was served to the Knights and Ladies of the Order of the Thistle when a new knight was installed. Discover where the Queen holds her private audiences in the Morning Drawing Room. Continue to the Great Gallery, where Scottish residents named in the New Year’s Honours List or Queen's Birthday Honours List receive their award at an Investiture ceremony. Admire Jacob de Wet's portraits of real and legendary kings of Scotland in the Great Gallery, the largest room in the palace. Learn about dramatic events from Scotland’s history in Mary Queen of Scots' historic chambers, where she witnessed the brutal murder of her secretary, Rizzio, by her jealous husband, Lord Darnley. At the end of your multimedia tour, enjoy a refreshing drink or light lunch (own expense) at the Café at the Palace.

Such an easy experience. I wish we would have known we could have gone any time that day, because that would have made our planning easier, but it was such a great experience overall. Very easy to show our tickets and then receive our headsets for the tour. We loved the whole experience. 10/10 recommend!

My Hawaiian visitor & I (a local) found booking this trip easy - simply exchanging our vouchers for tickets at the ticket desk on the day. Having the tour aids distributed free of charge (included in ticket price) was an added bonus. Holyrood Palace, being the residence of the Queen and royal family when in Edinburgh, together with the detailed histories described made this the most special tour. To be able to access historic rooms and see for yourself the hundreds of years of history contained within the palace and its grounds is utterly breathtaking, even if it is not your first visit. To be able to utilise the digi- pad to visualise the ruins, as they would have been when whole, was another fascinating detail of the tour. For me personally, the inclusion of the Portraits of the Holocaust Survivors, was a humbling yet affirmative experience - beautifully done and a must-see for all.

At the main entrance of the building you have to hand over the sheet with the reservation and you will be given the actual ticket. Well what to say, wonderful palace and audio guide (included in the ticket) very very useful. Too bad that the gardens and the chapel were under maintenance and therefore closed.
