Wander the opulent state rooms and lavish gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Her Majesty The Queen’s official Scottish residence, located at the end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Once inside the baroque palace, learn about its close associations with Scotland's history via a complimentary audio guide (available in 9 languages). Visit the State Apartments to see the changing tastes of successive monarchs. Marvel at fine plasterwork ceilings and Brussels tapestries, along with paintings and other art works in rooms still used by the Queen and Royal Family for official ceremonies. Go to the Throne Room to see where lunch was served to the Knights and Ladies of the Order of the Thistle when a new knight was installed. Discover where the Queen holds her private audiences in the Morning Drawing Room. Continue to the Great Gallery, where Scottish residents named in the New Year’s Honours List or Queen's Birthday Honours List receive their award at an Investiture ceremony. Admire Jacob de Wet's portraits of real and legendary kings of Scotland in the Great Gallery, the largest room in the palace. Learn about dramatic events from Scotland’s history in Mary Queen of Scots' historic chambers, where she witnessed the brutal murder of her secretary, Rizzio, by her jealous husband, Lord Danley. Great way to while away a couple if hours. Steeped in history and murky stories of murder and infidelity. I did feel the tour would have been enhanced by a human guide. The guide book is very informative and realised a few omissions that I would have been interested in. Overall recommended. Safe and organised re Covid precautions. Great you can convert ticket to an annual pass free of charge. Lovely little cafe selling fresh food.

The castle was marvelous and amazing in its splendor. The staff left a little to be desired inside the castle..they were a little rude and vultury. Made one fell uncomfortable, as if you shouldn’t be in there..the headphone tour guides were really nice..allowed you to travel at your own pace. All in all a very good day❤️

At first I thought we were going to have a personal guide for this tour until I read a little closer and the guide was just an audio guide. The audio guide was very good and explained each part of the palace thoroughly. If you did need a little more information the wardens in each room could help you. Because of the audio guides that everyone was wearing it made for a very quiet and peaceful tour. The gardens are lovely too, even though it rained it was still beautiful.
