Scotland brings to mind images such as kilts, tartan, haggis, golf, and bagpipes. It’s probably best known for its whisky, however. Visit the Glenturret Distillery, home to the Famous Grouse, on a highlands whisky tour. Take a tour and enjoy a tasting!
What to Expect
The Gaelic word usquebaugh refers to the water of life, which is certainly whisky when it comes to Scotland. Be sure to take time to experience the national drink and see how it’s made on a visit to the Glenturret Distillery, the oldest in Scotland.
From Edinburgh we head north over the Forth Road Bridge, stopping for a photo opportunity of what is perhaps the eighth wonder of the world, the Forth Bridge. We continue on through the beautiful countryside of Fife, Kinross-shire and Perthshire to the banks of the River Tay, the city of Perth and to the Hermitage, which some say is the most beautiful woodland walk in Scotland. This leads us to Ossians Hall, an 18th century mirrored summerhouse overlooking a magnificent waterfall, and to some of Scotland's tallest trees.
Our lunch stop is in Dunkeld, a small conservation town sitting on the banks of the RIver Tay and in the shadows of the ruined 13th century Cathedral. On the site of a 9th century monastery, part of the original Cathedral is still in use as a local church. Take time to walk round and see the Atholl Fountain in the square containing craft shops, cafes and hotels or take a stroll along the river.
Continuing through the beautiful Highland countryside, we reach The Glenturret Distillery, home of the Famous Grouse. Did you know that three drams of this whisky are sipped every second? There's an opportunity to join the Flight of the Grouse, and interactive tour of Scotland before our distillery tour, where you'll have a tasting opportunity.
On our way back to Edinburgh, we journey through Gleneagles, home of the world famous golf course and venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup, and then view from our coach Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument.
