Full description

This vaults tour takes you beneath the streets of Edinburgh's Old Town into a dimly lit space that many considered to be haunted. Your 1-hour tour visits the vaults of the South Bridge that date back to the 1700s.

These are the same vaults mentioned on Most Haunted Live as one of the scariest places on earth. Learn how the vaults have been used over the years, and the living conditions endured by the poor and homeless residents who frequented them.

The darker side of Edinburgh's history will unfold as you wander through the candle-lit underground area. From your costumed guide, you'll hear about the Burke and Hare murders and the persecution of witches.

Discover the characters who stalked the streets of Edinburgh, and the paranormal stories associated with the vaults. The Haunted Vaults tour option will cover more paranormal and ghost stories. You will also visit our torture exhibition, to explore how and why these items were used.

A very informative and professional tour. I love history and Fraser our guide did not disappoint. He made everyone feel welcome by asking where we all came from. There was a good balance of humour and gory facts. I found out a lot about Edinburgh’s past that I hadn’t been aware of. I have trained to be a tour guide in Glasgow and realise that the two cities share a common history, ie people loved a good public execution in days gone by.

Great experience! The tour was amazing and super interesting ( a bit creepy ). I discovered places I never knew about in Edinburgh ! Would totally recommend it ! Superbe expérience ! Le tour était est super intéressant ( et un peu flippant ) et j’ai découvert des endroits d’Édimbourg que je ne connaissais pas. Je recommande !

Fabulous experience and top tour guide Eilidh! Set the tour off with a bump in the dark and several bangs throughout the tour. Eilidh was a warm and welcoming host who could answer every random question swung at her! Defo recommend and would happily return, though will need to get a step ladder for that first step! Lol
