Spend a half day discovering the diverse culture and history of Durban and visiting the city’s sights. This is the ideal introductory tour of Durban, which has been shaped by the early Colonial settlers, the indigenous Zulus and the Indians who arrived as indentured laborers in the 19th Century. Our tour begins as we travel along the Golden Mile, the revitalised beachfront promenade which hugs the beckoning beaches of Durban, viewing the upgraded Point Waterfront. We travel through the city, viewing the majestic City Hall, and enjoying its humorous history! We continue to the small craft harbour viewing the 8th largest harbour in the world. Drive past the sugar terminals and very busy harbour warehouses on our way to the University of Natal – Durban Campus where we view lovely sights of the harbour below. Then we visit the bustling African/Indian Markets at Warwick Triangle – home to 9 distinct markets developed around Durban’s largest public transport interchange and where approximately 6000 street vendors ply their trade, to an average of 460 000 daily commuters – an authentic experience.

We start this Durban city tour with a morning visit to Victoria Market followed by a visit to Durban Botanic Gardens. The Durban Botanic Gardens is the oldest surviving botanic garden in Africa, established in 1849. The garden covers 15 hectares and contains a wide variety of plant species, including indigenous and exotic plants. It is home to a number of heritage trees, including a 160-year-old baobab tree and an avenue of London plane trees. Phezulu Safari Park is majestically set up on the Valley of 1000 Hills. Here you will be treated to Zulu Cultural dancing experiences, visit Zulu huts and get to know the Zulu traditional way of living. There is also an opportunity to purchase some tradional wares.
