The train ride through the mountains was spectacular. We traveled along side the Animas river most of the trip and saw beautiful white water rapids and crystal aqua blue waters. Also saw some wildlife, hikers, and a zip line resort which was very interesting to witness.

Depart the Durango Depot and into the mountains of the San Juan National Forest for a 3.5-hour train ride on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Get comfortable in your cozy train car on this iconic train, which has been running since 1882 through the untouched mountain terrain.


Pass the Animas River Gorge, Horseshoe Curve, and High Bridge before arriving in the historic mining town of Silverton. Wander the town's quaint alcoves and learn about its rich history before returning to the train two hours later to head back to Durango.
