The 6 hour trip was brilliantly organised. We ere picked up from our hotel and taken on a tour with an interesting commentary to the Penguin Rehabilitation Centre where penguins from the wild, who were suffering from an illness, or had been bitten by a shark, for example, were brought to be cured. Having seen the penguins in the various stages of recovery before being put back into the wild, we were taken to the coast to see the penguins and fur seals in their natural environment. We were then taken to a beautifully converted fishing boat at a jetty near the entrance on the south side of Otago Bay. From there we went out through the heads to view the magnificent abundance of bird and marine life. The albatrosses, with their 3 metre wing span were in full flight that day and were the highlight of the sea-bird activity. There were shags, shearwaters, penguins and baby seals climbing up the rocks. The commentary was excellent as was the trip back to the port of Dunedin.
