Full description

Enjoy a combined full-day sightseeing tour of some of Ireland’s most beautiful landscapes, including the 12th-century castle of Kilkenny, the rugged Wicklow Mountains, and the 7th-century monastery of Glendalough. The first stop is Kilkenny Castle (entree fee not included), majestically located on the banks of the River Nore. The craft capital of Ireland, you can visit the Kilkenny Art and Design Centre to get a better appreciation of the craft traditions of goldsmiths, sculptors, painters and more. Stroll around the cobblestone streets, and visit Saint Frances Brewery, Ireland’s oldest. Admire the magnificent silk merchant’s mansion of Rothe House, containing priceless Viking artifacts. And walk in the medieval gardens to see historic varietals of fruit and veg, such as Gortahok cabbage and Blood of Boyne apples. Enjoy lunch in one of the city’s artisan cafés. Walking tour included. En route to Glendalough, drive into the wild Wicklow Mountains of County Carlow. Watch as the landscape changes from lush green pastures and gentle valleys, to the glacial valleys of Wicklow Gap, giving it a cinematic quality that made it a popular location to shoot movies such as “Braveheart” and “PS I Love You.” Continue over the mountains to explore the monastic site of Glendalough (meaning glen of two lakes), where Christianity was re-introduced to Ireland after the Dark Ages. Learn about Saint Kevin, founder of the 7th-century monastery.

Follow your guide on a walking tour to see intact architecture, such as St. Kevin’s Kitchen, Church and Round Tower. On the final part of your journey head through the highest village in Ireland, known as Roundwood.

Marvel at the Sugarloaf Mountains, which were higher than the Alps before the Ice Age. Pass Powerscourt Estate and the Glen of Imaal en route to Kilnacanogue. Your guide will regale you with stories about Ireland, and be treated to some traditional Irish music on the drive back to Dublin.

Very nice tour with our guide Elizabeth and bus driver Krishna. We definitely recommend doing the tour! In Kilkenny we had enough time to get some breakfast (many small restaurants). The stop at Glendalough lakes is perfect for taking nice pictures. I would not call it a hike though, it‘s an easy walk. You can also just hang out at all the picnic places around the tourist center. Our highlight was the sheep farm. We sure did not expect that when we booked the trip. We even got to hold a little lamb. The best part about the tour is that you don‘t spend too much time inside the bus but more time outside. Thank you for this wonderful day in Ireland.

Really enjoyed the day and would recommend the trip. Only two things 1. It was hard to hear the guide at times when we were outside so a microphone would have really helped. 2. Everyone picking up the lamb was to much for it, it sounded like it was in distress I don’t think this should be permitted.

If you’re only in Dublin for a short period of time and you are looking for a day trip to give you a taste of Ireland’s beautiful countryside, its old world charm and rich history then this is the trip for you, if you’re there for a longer stay then this trip is for you too. My wife and I and our 25 & 28 yr old daughters absolutely loved this trip! We couldn’t have had a better time, due in large part to our wonderful guide Liam! Along with our bus driver Warren the day went off without a hitch! Besides the scenery and abundant subject matter, Liam’s love of storytelling and personal history with the area is what made the day! How he’s able to bring you thru the town of Kilkenny to some of its most historic spots all while enlightening us all to the town’s colorful story in the time allotted is fabulous! The rich history and beauty of the Wicklow mountains, Glendalough and Liam’s ability to explain its importance to world history is amazing! A lot of bang for your buck! Tom C.
