Our guide was heroic. He held forth under a constant downpour, lashed by rain and wind. He spoke with power and eloquence of Irish history, managing to project his voice above the constant city din. He is possessed of wit and a wonderful sense of humor. Above all his passion for the history of Ireland and its people shone through, equaled by his knowledge of the same. I’m not certain of our guide’s name — it may have been Darragh (sp?) — but he made our tour unforgettable.

Our tour guide, Sylvie, had a lot of energy and was very passionate about Dublin history. Even though it was a cold, rainy day she was bouncing all over the city weaving a fascinating story of Dublin history and it’s famous figures. I highly recommend this tour for anyone out of town that needs a crash course on Dublin and Ireland. The tour was scheduled for 2 hours but it ran for 2 hours and 40 minutes!

Our guide exhibited a great depth of knowledge and passion for Dublin history. He spoke with a loud, clear voice that was heard by a large tour group over the din of traffic; I did not miss a word of his narrative. He covered all key aspects of Dublin history—Viking, Norman, English colonial and modern Irish. He recommended additional tours that would augment his account. He gave us slightly more than the promised two hours, in a journey that moved at an appropriate pace and provided an effective setting for the discussion. Daragh is the young man’s name and he has a strong future in whatever he chooses to do-guiding, teaching or politics.
