You might walk across, alongside, and around River Liffey, but could you say you’ve kayaked through it?! I was in desperate need of a physical activity and nature and thankfully, City Kayaking brought me both of those after a week of daily Temple Bar and city center touristing and long day trips out of Dublin, which nearly brought me to my knees. But of course there was also an Irish twist to the kayaking trip! We were accompanied by a local musician/singer/songwriter who sung of love, rocky relationships, and death — honestly they all resonated with me so deeply. There were luckily no boats we encountered during our paddle, so it felt like we had the entire river to ourselves. We paddled towards Dublin Bay, and under O’Connell Bridge, Rosie Hackett, Loopline, Talbot Memorial, Sean O’Casey, and Samuel Beckett. After nearly two weeks of traversing here and there, I can look back at this musical kayaking tour as one of my top 5 experiences during my first trip to the Emerald Isle.
This was such a unique experience for a city break. Kayaking was a great way to see Dublin from the River Liffey. Mark Flynn played some great songs for an intimate show under the bridge. Max was good fun and supportive to those that had never kayaked before. Definitely recommend.
