The Boyne Valley and the Boyne River extend through the counties of Meath and Louth in the east of Ireland to the sea at Drogheda. Explore this historically important and wonderfully scenic area on a guided tour from Dublin. This tour includes your entrance fee and skip the queue at Newgrange Monument and Bru Na Boinne. Discover the sites and monuments in this area that date back over 5,000 years. Learn about the story of Ireland and the Irish people that can be traced back in this valley to the first Neolithic settlers and their megalithic tombs and to the Celts and their pagan beliefs.

Visit Trim Castle, the largest Norman Castle in Ireland and film location of the movie "Braveheart". Proceed to visit the Hill of Tara, the ancient seat of the High Kings of Ireland. Hear about the Viking Raids and the Norman Conquest of Hugh De Lacy. See the sites of the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 and the major Irish Rebellions of 1641 and 1798. The overall impression is excellent. However, one must be prepared in advance that access to the Donjon of Trim Castle is only possible with a special guide and on time. It is advisable to warn "our" guide in advance, so that he lays down the time for this and coordinates with the local schedule. It was a shame to arrive at the castle at 14:15, get an hour and a half of time, but not get to the Donjon because there is a session from 15:00 to 15:45....

John was great. He was friendly, helpful, and very organized. We got everywhere we needed to be at the best time for the weather and views. Newgrange had a knowledgeable guide and the Hill of Tara had a stunning sunset. Both castles were closed, so it was only possible to get pictures outside.

Great day out! Our driver/guide got us to the Newgrange site pretty much before anyone else so we easily got admission. Newgrange was very impressive and the newgrange guide very informative and conversational. We ended up having a group philosophy sesh inside at the end of the official guided tour with the tour guide which was great food for thought. Entertaining and insightful commentary on the road trip by our driver/guide between sites. He went out of his way to ensure we had a fantastic experience. Ticked off all the major Boyne Valley attractions and made some great friends too!
