Full description

Join this walking tour to chart the revolutionary period of 1913-1923, a decade of division, and war, that created the independent Irish state and partitioned the island of Ireland.

The tour begins in the heart of Trinity College Dublin, founded in 1592 A.D. by Queen Elizabeth I. Discover how in 1913, Ireland was a constituent part of the UK and by 1923, an independent Irish Free State had emerged from the shadow of Civil War.

Continue to outside Liberty Hall, where the rebellion of 1916 began at 12 noon on 24th April, as the involvement of the labor movement under James Connolly is explained by your guide.

After a brief stop at the Abbey Theatre to discuss the cultural context of the Gaelic Revival and W.B. Yeats, arrive in front of the General Post Office, the headquarters of the Easter Rising, a pivotal moment for Irish independence.

Travel across the city, making stops at Ha’Penny Bridge and Eagle Tavern, before arriving at Dublin City Hall. In the grounds of Dublin Castle, learn how Michael Collins waged a campaign against the Special Branch of the Royal Irish Constabulary and British Military Intelligence.

Your last stop is the Four Courts by the River Liffey. Here your guide will tell you about the Irish Civil War of 1922-23. The republican movement that had been so successful split over the issue of the Treaty and two sides came to blows which started an 11-month civil war.

Our tour guide, Erin, is attentive, friendly and having full knowledge of the Irish Revolution history, despite her young age. She provides a very descriptive and clear explanation to every of our questions. Aside from this, the Gilmainham Goal tour is very worth visiting.

We could not have enjoyed our tour with Alexander more. He was so knowledgeable about a huge range of subjects and kept us interested and engaged all the time. The tour was incredibly well put together and we all learnt so much. I think I can honestly say it was my most enjoyable few hours walking around Dublin, ever. Alexander gave us more than 100% of his time and attention, having tailored everything to our needs. I could not recommend the tour highly enough and will certainly be booking another in the future.

This Tour was great. :) The tourguide is really nice and he knows I think almost everything about the irish history (of course I expect that from an history student :D ). I was able to ask any question and I think I got a little bit smarter about irish history and irish people in general. ;) I really recommend this tour and hope everybody who book this will enjoy the tour as much as I did. The only problem was that he was not able to get a ticket for the kilmainham goal so maybe you ask him or phone him to get sure he can get one if you really want to see this but also without that it was a great day and I enjoyed it a lot. THANKS kind regards, Magda :)
