Planning Your Visit

  • How to get there?

It isn't possible to visit the reserve without an approved tour group, so look out for tour operators that provide transfers from your hotel or the city center. Otherwise you can only reach the reserve by car via the E66, which starts out as the Dubai-Al Ain Road between Downtown Dubai and the Ras al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary.

  • What to bring?

The desert is, of course, very exposed to sunlight, so bring sunglasses, suitable headwear, and plenty of sunscreen! You'll need to use a lot of the latter so bring moisturizer to stop your skin drying out. If you're bringing an expensive camera then make sure it's protected against the sand (waterproofing also works!), and bring a water bottle even if your tour operator is providing it, just in case. Also, do NOT wear closed leather shoes!

Good to know

  • When should I visit?
The desert is there day and night, so it all depends on when you schedule your tour!
  • Is it expensive?
Depends on the experience you are seeking, but prices usually start around $100 per person.
  • Will I need a guide?
    Definitely.
  • How to get there
Your chosen tour guide will take you there in a private van from the city.
  • Additional information
Eat lightly before your excursion. The bumpy ride across the dunes can make some people feel queasy!

This was a wonderful tour!!! For a city where things are pretty expensive you get a lot for what you pay for. Getting out to the desert, going dune bashing, sand boarding, seeing some performances, getting food all for around $70 USD is great. The driver did a good job picking us up on time and driving on the dunes. Some tours say it but only drive on the sand. This tour had real dune bashing with the car driving quickly and sharply over which made it fun. Never felt in any danger but it was cool to bounce around and have the car drive on an angle and stuff. The cars had extra handholds inside so people could stabilize themselves if wanted too

Despite corona and Ramadan everything went smoothly - from booking to the end. Especially, for the first time it is a must see, flying over the desert with beautiful view of the sunrise. Pickup on time in air conditioning bus. Also the drop on the way back went good. Balkon Ride as expected last for one hour. Afterwards nice ride with a safari jeep to the camp. Camp made delicious buffet, with opportunities to take Picture with falcons and riding camels. However the time at the camp were too short: only one hour. All in all nice experience especially for the first time. Thus 5 stars

Dune bushing, sandboarding and camel rides were excelent and whole evening was closed by delicious dinner with entertainment and possibility of hena tattoo. Pick up and drop off at the hotel, all well organised with excellent personal driver and guide Bali

It was the best adventure in my life the team was so nice, guys of Oceantravel were so kind. Our guide was Bali and we loved him. He was so helpful with everybody. I advice to all to live that adventure. And it doesn’t cost too much even if the service was maximum. I m very satisfied.
