Full description

Explore the picturesque Saxon Wine Route on a boat trip from Dresden to Meissen and back. On board the boat you can discover interesting facts about the cathedral town, the cozy wine taverns, and the wine villages in the region. Set off on the paddle steamer in the morning and reach Meissen at midday for a break of 3 hrs. Even from a distance you can discover the silhouette of the town characterized by its castle hill and surrounded by the hills in the Elbe Valley. In the town itself, you can visit the Albrechtsburg with its cathedral. Heading from the pier, simply take a right turn down under the bridge and you'll reach the castle after a 10-minute walk or by using the lift. Take a stroll through the town with its historical wall and visit the town museum or the porcelain factory. Meissen's Frauenkirche is also worth a visit. The church, built in the 15th century, is located in the center of the town, a few minutes walk from the Albrechtsburg. Ride on the paddle steamer back to Dresden and reach the city in the evening.

Very relaxing pleasant trip down the river to Meissen which is a beautiful town well worth visiting. Unfortunately the English commentary was difficult to hear and not given on the way back. Also upstairs, the preferred seating, was not opened and no explanation was available.

The Paddle Steamer cruise down the Elbe River is very relaxing. There is a lot of beautiful scenery to be viewed along the river bank. The comentory is informative as you pass specific spots on route. The township of Meissen with its narrow streets, cobbled stones and interesting shops makes it good for exploring. Coming in to Meissen is so picturesque with its cathedral and biggest Castle in Germany perched up on the cliff base. Two wonderful buildings to explore. Lots of places to eat and enjoy the atmosphere of another quaint German township

Lovely journey to get there and back . We had to ask for English commentary and it was hard to hear at the front of the boat , maybe change the voice to a male? We found the porcelain factory eventually , when stepping of the boat turn left ( wished we had!) . We arrived at the factory at 1 pm but the next tour was 1.30, we were assured we should be finished by 2pm but didn't want to risk missing the boat , ( I do have a few mobility issues especially on the cobbles) so we gave it a miss and went for an ice cream in a beautiful square and enjoyed the scenery which in hindsight I should have just done st the start. Oh we went down to find the setting off place the day before as you need to exchange your paper/mobile tickets at their info office - you don't find out till the day which jetty you are leaving from and you can exchange your tickets then .
