Dortmund: Skywalk

Dortmund: Skywalk

Which way to go? We start with our experienced guide at Phoenixplatz. From here, we make our way to the Skywalk, which you reach via 99 steps and takes you to a height of 26 meters. The walkway over the blast furnace gas pipeline is the almost 100-metre-long feeder to one of the blast furnaces that remain standing on the Phoenix-West blast furnace site today, almost a quarter of a century after the blast furnace plant was shut down. On this tour, you will enjoy the pure feeling of walking through clouds and have plenty of time to let your gaze wander in all directions and discover new things or see familiar sights from an exciting new perspective!

Tasting - "Dortmund export beers" walking tour and tasting

Tasting - "Dortmund export beers" walking tour and tasting

We taste a wide variety of export beers on the site of the disused Phoenix-West blast furnace works. Exactly in the places where the "worker on shift" could only dream of his after-work beer. Why export beers in particular? Because we are enthusiastic about the incredible variety of flavors of these bottom-fermented beers, for which each brewery has its own recipe. During the walking tour, you will make four stops at selected exciting locations on the grounds of this important industrial heritage site to taste the export beers. Throughout the tour, our two tour guides will entertain you with a mix of anecdotes, (historical) facts and curious incidents about the history and work in the former steelworks with its blast furnaces, export beer, structural change in Dortmund and the Ruhr region ...

Drinking Hall Tour Dortmund

Drinking Hall Tour Dortmund

On our tour through the Unionviertel - originally a working-class district, now a trendy neighborhood - we are on the trail of a Ruhr area phenomenon with cult character: Trinkhalle, Bude, Büdchen, Kiosk ... many names behind which a world full of useful and delicious things opens up. It doesn't matter whether you need milk or toilet paper after closing time, run out of beer at a party, suddenly feel an irrepressible desire for a mixed bag of homemade sweets or potato chips, or want to buy a newspaper quickly: The Büdchen has (almost) everything your heart desires. And this is what awaits you: Starting at the Hochbunker in Rittershausstraße, at Café Erdmann, we head together to a number of different stalls in the Unionviertel with its urban charm and delight you with a mixed bag to enjoy. During the tour, you will learn a lot about the history and significance of the Trinkhalle for Dortmund and the Ruhr region. For example, that the idea for the Trinkhalle dates back to the time of industrialization, when mine and factory owners set them up at the factory gates. Run by miners and factory workers who were no longer able to work, they offered mineral water and non-alcoholic drinks to curb the consumption of beer and spirits by the miners. After all, drinking tap water posed a health risk due to impurities. Or how the stalls gradually changed their product range after they opened in the workers' residential areas, such as the Unionviertel, and became not only a place to go for urgent purchases, but also a place where people still meet and chat today! Or that the kiosk of yesteryear is not the kiosk of today, how and why all this has changed and why today, for example, there is the "Trinkhallenverein", which is dedicated to preserving the kiosk culture. A taste: yes, there will be one.

Excellent tour of the Signal Iduna Football ground. We arrived at 4pm, followed the yellow footsteps and it was a self guided tour with QR codes to scan with detailed information. There was no pressure to move on and you could stop to take as many photo's as you liked. Good time to go as it was fairly quiet. We would have liked a photo with the club mascot but by the time we got to the Manager's area we had missed the mascot. No problem as we got plenty of photo's and got to enjoy the stadium before the game the next day
