Walls of Dubrovnik - Guided Walking Tour & Free Exploration

Walls of Dubrovnik - Guided Walking Tour & Free Exploration

We're proud to offer a unique and different take on the usual concept of a guided walking tour - we invite you to join our knowledgeable local guide for a one-part guided walking tour along the northern stretch of the city walls of Dubrovnik, where you'll hear about the history of the walls, learn how and when they were built, who the enemies of Dubrovnik were and much more, and then continue to discover the southern half of the walls on your own! We've carefully listened to our guests' pain points and have come up with the ideal hybrid combo where you'll experience the walls both in a small-group setting and at your own pace, giving you plenty of time and freedom to stop for photos, refreshments or simply to admire the stunning architecture and amazing views, without the pressure of being in a group. Our tour begins at Ploče gate, from where we'll climb up to the walls at the eastern entrance, which has less stairs and fewer people than the main entrance. The guided walk along the northern stretch features nine stops, each carefully planned and designed to provide you with an insight into Dubrovnik's rich history, both ancient as well as modern. We'll talk about the major fortifications, you'll hear about medieval warfare, cannons, smart diplomacy of the old Dubrovnik and how it survived as an independent city-state between the historic political giants such as Venice and the Ottoman Empire. We'll also cover the most recent war in Croatia and the attacks on Dubrovnik in 1991. You will also learn about the everyday life inside the Old town and how many people actually live within the walls today. At the half-way point, say goodbye to your friendly local guide and, enriched with new knowledge, feel free to continue walking the rest of the walls at your own pace! The southern part is for your pleasure - admire the Adriatic sea, take in the views, stop as many times as you want and for as long as you want - you have the freedom! If you want to stop for a drink at one of the bars, you can do that, without feeling awkward about holding the group - that's the beauty of self-exploration! You will have plenty of time to complete the full circle around the walls. Before you part ways, your guide will tell you where else you can use your entrance tickets for the walls, how long they're open and, if you want, give you recommendations on what else to see and where to go, be it museums, restaurants or any other things that you may be interested in doing. Our Walls of Dubrovnik - Guided Walking Tour & Self-Exploration is ideal for travelers who want the best of both worlds - a guided walking tour and the possibility to explore at your own pace, taking all the time that you need!

This food tour did not disappoint. Amazing dishes and wine choices, while meeting new people just as excited to try authentic dishes. If you don’t like seafood (like me) no worries, you just let them know in advance so you can be offered other sample dishes. The food portions will certainly leave you full and satisfied. Drazen, our OUTSTANDING guide, educated us on the wonderful history of Dubrovnik. He certainly kept the group engaged and conversations open and inclusive. I learned that tour guides here go through a lot of intense schooling to be able to represent their country and they do it well! Thank you for a remarkable and unforgettable experience today with my daughters. živjeli (cheers) Drazen!

Great tour and introduction to Dubrovnik - our guide, Ana, was fantastic. We ate a variety of Croatian cuisines, each with their own history or relevance in Croatian culture. Choice of drinks at each stop and my partner (who doesn’t eat fish/seafood) was provided with alternative food options. There were a number of history (frankly, it’s some of the more recent history from the war of independence in the early 90’s that was most eye-opening) and point of interest stops around the city whilst moving between restaurants. Can’t recommend enough.

I greatly enjoyed my time in beautiful Drubrovnik The guide and the driver contributed to make this trip a nice memory. We had experienced thunderstorm during our way and upon our return however Ivan was always with a smile and got us on our destination on time. I would highly recommend this tour to friends and family

Amazing tour and well worth the price! Went to four highly acclaimed restaurants that serve traditional Croatian cuisine and wine. Maria was an excellent guide with Dubrovnik fun facts and personal anecdotes. Everything was super yummy and you definitely don’t leave hungry. 5/5 experience.

The guide was excellent! One of the best memories from the city
