Since 1882 Odense River Cruise has been sailing people up and down the river. Depart from the center of Odense, pass the Odense Zoo and arrive at the beech forest in Fruens Bøge for a relaxing stroll or simply return to the center of Odense. Enjoy the tranquillity of the water while listening to the birdsong, which may or may not be accompanied by a lion’s roar while sailing past Odense Zoo. Odense Aafart’s tour boat will moor at the zoo after the relaxing trip on the stream where you will be passing many beautiful gardens located in the old quarter of Odense. Start sailing from Odense City heading for the forest in Fruens Bøge. During this whole trip, you'll be surrounded by many beech trees, making you feel like you're in the countryside and not in the city center. Take the opportunity to disembark in the forest of Fruens Bøge and go for a walk, enjoy a picnic basket or have lunch in one of the surrounding restaurants, and take a later departure back. Take in the beautiful views as you cruise toward your destination. Your holiday starts on board: the 40-minute journey promises to be an unforgettable experience. Gliding through the North Frisian Wadden Sea and enjoying the fresh sea breeze is just part of the arrival to Germany's northernmost island Sylt. During the journey from List, Sylt to Havneby, Rømø you can relax on one of the open decks. Start your adventure at the meeting point where the local operator will show you how to drive the boat. After a brief safety chat, set out on the water. Travel on the peaceful waters of Odense Harbour as you witness local landmarks and historical sites from the water. Use the map given to you during your orientation to help you navigate around. Experience the 750-year-old castle, which for centuries was one of the country’s most important royal castles. Today, Koldinghus is a modern museum and a world-class attraction with an award-winning restoration, large international exhibitions and a royal dress-up workshop. End the visit to the old castle with a lunch in Madkælderen or a trip in the Giants’ Tower, where you can enjoy the view over the city, the fjord and the castle lake. The history Approaching Kolding’s historic royal castle is a unique experience. Perched on top of the castle mound, high above the town of Kolding, it is an awe-inspiring sight. That was precisely the intention when Koldinghus was built in 1268 to keep watch over the kingdom’s southern border. For centuries, it was one of Denmark’s most important royal castles. In 1808, while Spanish soldiers were billeted there, a fire broke out that wrecked the castle, and for many years, it stood as a romantic ruin. Today, Koldinghus is an exceptional historical gem with outstanding rooms and halls, a royal dress-up workshop and varying exhibitions. The restoration of the castle. Around 1600, Christian IV created a castle chapel at Koldinghus. In the fire in 1808, the Giants’ Tower collapsed and crushed the chapel. When the castle was restored in the late 1970s, the chapel was not rebuilt. The four walls of the room are all that remains of its former glory. Instead, the restoration architects used lighting to hint at the original architecture of the room. The architect couple Inger and Johannes Exner were in charge of the final restoration of Koldinghus. The result is a world-class attraction.
