Námaskarð is a barren landscape scarred by boiling geothermal water with mud pools. Experience the strong smell of sulfur which hangs in the air here but be sure to stick to the marked walking paths. After a lunch break overlooking Dimmuborgir, we visit the former nature baths located on the tectonic plates between Europe and America. The last volcanic eruption in Myvatn was in 1984 from the volcano Krafla and lava from this eruption is visible everywhere you look. Hverir is an area of bubbling sulphur mud pits and steaming vents, watch your step as you explore this unique area. You will have the option to go into the geothermal Forest lagune and soak in the picturesque nature lagune just on the outskirts of Akureyri. Leave Mývatn and continue to the great and powerful waterfall Dettifoss, which is located in the Vatnajökull National Park, and it’s reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in all of Europe. Admire Dettifoss, over 100 meter (350 feet) wide which drops nearly 45 meters (150 feet) down into the gorge Jökulsárgljúfur. Take a better look at Jökulsárgljúfur which is the largest gorge in all of Iceland with a span of up to 1000 meters (1600 feet) and a depth of nearly 120 meter (400 feet) before heading back to Akureyri.

You will have about 45 minutes to explore the waterfall, take photos of this natural wonder and, if you like, grab a coffee at the Godafoss Coffee Shop. After admiring the waterfall, you will board the bus again and head back to Akureyri. Pick-up is at the harbour 1 hour after the arrival of the ship, and departure 30 minutes later.
