Full description

The Museum Prinsenhof Delft offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of the Netherlands, Delft, and Delftware. Learn all about the history of Delft and the rest of the country as you explore the museum, itself a building of great historical importance.

The museum is located on the site of some of the most dramatic and consequential events in Dutch history including the assassination of William of Orange, the Father of the Dutch Nation. The bullet holes of the assassination are still visible. From 10 February 2023 - 4 June 2023 you can visit the temporary exhibition Vermeer's Delft. In the 17th century, Delft was a breeding ground for talent, where important innovations were taking place. Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) developed into a world-class painter here. For the first time, Vemeers life, his network and his relationship to the city of Delft is the central focus of an exhibition. On the basis of more than 100 objects from Dutch and foreign collections, including masterpieces by Delft painters, objects of applied art, maps, prints, drawings, books, biographical documents and other archival matter, a picture of the bustling city atmosphere of the 17th century will be painted. Learn more about the famous inhabitants of Delft's past such as the world-famous painter Johannes Vermeer, Michiel van Mierevelt, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, and Hugo de Groot.

Discover the role that the citizens of Delft played in the history of the Netherlands and how Delftware became the global brand it is today. See some beautiful Delftware pieces in the museum next to beautiful paintings from the period known as the 'Golden Age'.

Very informative. 1-2 furnished rooms would give the very beautiful old building even more flair.

The murder of William of Orange had been covered in our granddaughter's class. She was also told about the museum she would like to visit. It was a success, she listened carefully to all the audio.
