From Tel Aviv: Masada & Dead Sea Full Day Tour with Pick Up

1. From Tel Aviv: Masada & Dead Sea Full Day Tour with Pick Up

Embark on a full-day guided tour from Tel Aviv to the Judean Hills and the shores of the Dead Sea by bus. Visit the ancient palace of Masada, ride a cable car, and admire the Qumran caves on your drive back. Perched on a high plateau, the ancient fortified palace of Masada became a refuge for Zealots who took a stand against the Romans, until the mass suicide of the zealots in 73 AD. The ruins sit precariously on a plateau some 1,300 feet above sea level and measure 2,000-foot long by 1,000-foot wide. They boast extraordinary views of the Dead Sea and the Judean Desert. It is an exhausting climb, but we will ascend by cable car to make life easier. Explore the fortress built by King Herod in around 37 BC. Visit the remains of the palaces and see mosaic floors, Roman baths, and other findings. Masada was also home to the oldest synagogue in Israel, but one of the most remarkable features is the 12 water cisterns, each with a capacity of up to 140,000 cubic feet. Following the tour of Masada, you will drive to the Dead Sea Mineral Beach located in the Jordan Rift Valley, between Jordan and the West Bank. It is the lowest place on earth and its high density of salt makes for a unique experience as you float on the beautiful aquamarine surface. Take a mud bath and benefit from the therapeutic qualities of the natural Dead Sea mud. You will then drive back to Tel Aviv, with an on-route view of the Qumran cave, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.

From Tel Aviv: Highlights of Jerusalem & the Dead Sea Tour

5. From Tel Aviv: Highlights of Jerusalem & the Dead Sea Tour

Your first stop in Jerusalem is the Mount of Olives where you can look out across the ancient city. As you descend the Mount of Olives you'll see the Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of All Nations with its colorful mosaic pediment, and the Jewish burial tombs of Zechariah, Absalom and BeneiHazir. Pass through the Kidron Valley and follow the walls of the Old City to the entrance to the Armenian Quarter. Walk along the Cardo where Crusader shops once lined the street, now home to modern up-market stores. Next, visit the Jewish Quarter and the Western Wall (Kotel or Wailing Wall). This wall is the last remaining wall of the Jewish Temple which was destroyed in 70 A.D. Jews gather here at all hours of the night and day to pray. You can place a prayer note in the cracks between the huge stones of the wall. Then, walk the Via Dolorosa or the Way of the Cross. The Via Dolorosa wends its way through the Old City lanes and markets. Each of the 14 Stations of the Cross where Jesus paused is marked with an explanation of the events. We reach the last point on this holy route at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, constructed on the site where Jesus was crucified at Golgotha. After seeing the highlights of Jerusalem, your journey takes you out of Jerusalem and past the city of Jericho to the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth at about 400 meters below sea level. After an exciting day of sightseeing, relax with a refreshing swim in the famous sea. The Dead Sea is 9.6 times saltier than the ocean and the high saline content will keep you afloat so you can pose for a classic photo while reading a newspaper. At the end of your tour, you'll be transferred back to your hotel in Tel Aviv.

What people are saying about Dead Sea

Overall rating

The reps were amazing so much know ledge about the history which I wanted . I was just sad that we only had 20 minutes in the Dead Sea as we didn’t arrive there until 4.25 pm . I think we shouldn’t have spent so much time in Bethlehem eating as we could have ate in the Dead Sea and people could have chosen to eat if they wanted to .

The trip was very well organized. Dapha's (the guide) enthusiasm and professionalism made the day memorable. I would have liked to spend more time at the Dead Sea.

Everything perfectly organised, interesting places and above all the extraordinary guide…Tomer is a talent!
