COVID-19 Update

Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

A visit to the Top End would not be complete without a trip to the beautiful Tiwi Islands. The only aboriginal community where you don't need a permit to visit, Tiwi people are renowned for their friendly and welcoming nature.

Departing two to three times a week, catch the ferry to the Tiwi's from Cullen Bay Ferry Terminal just 5 minutes from Darwin's city centre. Travel the 2.5 hour journey in comfort on the MV Tiwi Mantawi. Grab a coffee and a snack and sit back in either the air-conditioned cabin or outdoor sundeck.

Grab a walking map and buy a $5 museum ticket on the ferry and make your own way on foot around this small Indigenous community to visit art centres, the museum and historic Catholic mission precinct.

See the artists at work and check out renowned Tiwi art including fabrics, carvings and paintings in the three different art centres. These pieces can be purchased direct from the art centres at community island prices.

After your day wandering and exploring the community of Wurrumiyanga, make your way back to the ferry for the return journey to Darwin.
