Visit Katherine Gorge, set deep within the stone country of Nitmiluk National Park, on a full-day tour from Darwin. Take a cruise along the Katherine River and through this dramatic natural setting. Learn about the area's history and enjoy a buffet lunch.
What to Expect
Spend the day in Katherine Gorge, part of Nitmiluk National Park, on a full-day tour that includes a cruise on the Katherine River and buffet lunch.
Your tour begins as you head out of Darwin, traveling along the Stuart Highway. Along the way, view the endless outback scrubs and WWII air strips before taking a break at the Adelaide River. Here you have the option to dine on a light or cooked country breakfast (additional cost). You will also visit the Adelaide River War Cemetery, a memorial to the Darwin air raids in the 1940s.
Finally, arrive in Nitmiluk National Park and board a boat for a 2-hour guided scenic cruise through Katherine Gorge. If you look hard, you may be able to spot freshwater crocodiles lining the banks. Then take a short walk along to another gorge and admire the stark, sheer, richly-colored escarpments of Katherine Canyon.
During the day, you will also be treated to a buffet lunch on your cruise. At the end of your adventure, head through the outback township of Katherine; the third largest town in the territory.
