This tour gives you a leg-up onto the back of a camel and takes you on an adventure through Ancient Egypt. It will be also journey to one of the oldest monasteries in the world and connect you with a local family for lunch.
What to Expect
Go on a journey into Ancient Egypt on this desert tour that takes you out of Dahab and into the sandy lands of the Sinai Desert. Your local guide will pick you up from your hotel in Dahab at 7.30am and take you out to St Catherine’s Monastery, an incredible UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest working monasteries in the world.
Once you arrive, take a walk around the grounds, take a peek into the daily life of the local monks, and admire the architecture at this beautiful site. Stop off at the site of the Burning Bush, where you can even get a blessing from a priest if you want.
The next stop on this Egypt tour is a visit to a local handicraft centre, where you can find all kinds of goodies, from clothing to cushions, made from local Bedouin women. Take some time browsing the treasures for sale and you can also pop into a little bookshop and pick up some reading material about Egypt and the monastery.
Take a break here for a bite to eat, but not just any bite to eat. You will be invited into a local home for some authentic Bedouin food. Take a nice relaxing breather from all the history and get to know some local culture through the Bedouin people and their cuisine. Sit back and enjoy a cup of local tea and take some photos of your very unique surroundings.
After you have fuelled up with food, set out on the serious adventure of the day. Take a ride out into the desert, where you will meet your local Bedouin hosts who will have some camel friends in tow. Say hello to your new mode of transport, hop on their backs, and take a camel trek into the desert plateau. Head towards the Nawamis, a collection of Bronze Age tombs in the Sinai desert. This UNESCO World Heritage Site dates back thousands and thousands of years. Take some time here to explore the surroundings and learn all about this area, rich in history.
Fully clued up on desert life in Egypt, get back in your vehicle and take a drive back towards Dahab, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.

Know Before You Go

Both men and women must wear suitable clothing to cover shoulders, arms, and knees to enter the monastery. Suitable footwear and clothing to be worn for riding camels in the desert is also required. It is advised that you bring sunscreen and hats to protect you from the heat.
