Heraklion: Wine Tasting E-Bike Tour

Heraklion: Wine Tasting E-Bike Tour

The start point is west of Heraklion from the beach of Ammoudara and head south towards the hinterland of Crete. After leaving the urban area behind us, entering a rural area full of vineyards and olive groves. On one side of the route people can see the holy mountain of Yioukta and on the other the highest mountain of Crete, Psiloritis. The first village on the way is Gournes and after a few kilometers is the village of Athanati. The road becomes uphill until the almost uninhabited village of Xirolia. Riding west and after a few kilometers the group will reach the capital of wine in Crete, the village of Dafnes. Here the well-known wine festival takes place every year in July. In this area there are many wineries that produce the best wines of Crete. Here the group of the bikers will taste 4 different wines, accompanied by Cretan cheese, rusks and olives. After the tasting the bikes will be left there and the group will go by car back to the starting point. This e-bike tour is possible to be done by everybody who is able to ride a bike. It is 24 km long and the net riding time ist about 90 minutes. If it has rained recently, then the route will change, because the previous route has some dirt roads and there will be mud.

Tour was fantastic. Aris was a great guide and excellent company. He ensured we understood how to use the e-bikes before we set off at our own pace. Plenty of advanced notice of turns, crossings, busyness and hills for even the least confident of cyclists. Loads of opportunities for stops, stories and photos, especially once in the hills where we hardly saw anyone. Great to see abit more of the island before our wine tasting, which we all really enjoyed. We were made to feel most welcome at the vineyard. Getting a lift back after afew wines just made it a perfect ending to the trip. Thanks again Aris.

We met the guide on the outskirts of Heraklion. Since we were there in the off-season, there were only three of us on the tour with him. He had chosen a scenic route (approx. 22km). During breaks he told us a lot about the region and we were able to ask questions. In the village of Dufnes we then went for a wine tasting and tried 4 Cretan wines, with cheese, Cretan rusks and tomatoes. The owner of the winery explained everything in detail, and the wine was also very tasty. All in all, a great tour with impressions that you wouldn't get anywhere else.

We liked the tour so much! Aris is a great guide and takes the time to answer all questions. He made sure everyone was at ease the whole ride and added extra stops when necessary. The wine tasting was also very nice with lots of variaties to try in company of the friendly owner Fereniki. Afterwards Aris’ father dropped us at the bus stop so we could easily travel back to the hotel. We would 100% recommend this tour!

Guide Aris gave us a fantastic tour. He is extremely easy-going and gave us plenty of room to form our own impressions. The wine tasting at the end was great, the wine was excellent and so was the raki. At the end we were able to enjoy an almost family-like return journey with lots of fun in the car.

Excellent, highly recommend it. One of the highlights of our Crete trip. You have access to beautiful views of the landscape by bike, very different from the car rides. The guide was friendly and knowledgable. It's really a must if you're in Heraklion!!!
